Even a well travelled person should venture up to Golden Rock. The obligatory ride in the back of the government lorries was exhilarating, uncomfortable - yes, seated on a narrow bench, but the journey up the windy, mountain single track road was impressive. The conductor was collecting the fares whilst balanced on the outside ledge of the vehicle! There is a new cable car near the summit for a different approach. On arrival at the sacred site, I had not anticipated having to walk through a village barefoot. Remember to put your shoes in your bag and keep them with you. Those who could not walk the distance paid to be carried on a litter! We bought food at the many stalls. There were lots of families at the summit, sitting peacefully picnicking, sleeping, chatting, just whiling away the day together. The rock is very imposing and obviously very sacred for the pilgrims. Only men may touch it and add more gold leaf to it. The surrounding scenery is very beautiful and dramatic. The Buddhist pilgrims are very respectful, reverend and seemed to enjoy their time at the temple immensely. The whole day was very memorable, I would certainly return. I would not stay at a hotel there as they seemed basic, overpriced and remote. We took the relaxing train to Bago, explored the great sites there, hired a driver for the day, went to Golden Rock and then lots of places on the way back.

For our trip to Myanmar they provided a perfect service. The visit to Chin state was simply awesome: the driver/guide who accompanied us was very friendly and careful with local people. We visited private houses where we could talk to the tattoo women and have a real feeling of their traditions. Everything in full respect of their privacy. It was the best part of our trip!!! Nevertheless, their knowledge of Italian language, made everything easier. We made all the arrangement via mail: their response was very quick and efficient; beside that, Flora also speaks fluent Italian and this made everything easier. If you are planning to visit this beautiful Country and want to have a real "local experience" just get in contact with them!!

We spent 4 nights at Maungman beach, although it rained one full due to the monsoon, we had a great time being away from busy Yangon. Hello Dawei is a beautiful old colonial building where they serve delicious food! The staff is very friendly and helpful. They arranged our bus tickets and gave us a lot of advice for next time in Dawei. Highly recommended! We can´t wait to come back during high season and try the snorkelling!

Purchased tour on-line to Do Burma, A Burmes Adventure. Took a cab from our hotel. Met on the street by our guide for the day, Mo. He lives outside the city and comes in by bus when he has a tour to lead. Not sure who’s house he was operating out of, but there seemed to be a couple living there. Mo had full run of the house. Besides the four of us there was another couple from Great Britain in their 20’s. Mo took us upstairs and gave us our first assignment for the day. We were all going to the local market and we had to purchase specific items. We were to see which couple could purchase these items for the least money. Prior to going to the market we learned a few of their essential words and numbers. We walked to the market where My spouse & I purchased the items for 450 MMK, Our friends beat us by 100 MMK. Came back to the apartment by trishaw. At the apartment we cut up the items purchased and made Tea Leaf Salad. Consisted of the items we purchased plus two bags of cashew nuts, a bag of seasoning, oil, salt and pepper. The salad was quite good. We went back upstairs for a little cultural and historical information. When this was over we walked down to the local tea house on the corner. They offer bitter, semi-sweet and sweet tea, depending upon the amount of condensed milk they add to the tea. Semi-sweet tasted almost like chocolate. Back to the apartment and learned how to dress with the Longi. Ladies tie theirs differently then the men. Men tie so they have a pocket in the front to carry keys, money or phone. Pronounced loozhe. Learned about the yellow paste the people wear on their faces. Outside and took a ride in the back of a truck to the river. The waterfront was extremely filthy, with all kinds of trash and plastic bags everywhere you looked. Went across the river in one of the local boats. The river water was a deep chocolate color, very muddy, with lots of flotsam. This water was even more trash filled than the Nile. Landed in the town of Umya. Not sure of spelling. Did not see cell phones here, although there were TVs. Mo explained about the chewy thing the people seem to enjoy. They have lakes for different purposes depending upon cleanliness. One for showering and washing clothes and another for drinking water. The one for drinking water had lily pads floating on top. Visited one family’s home. Very basic with storage on the front porch and on the loft on the 2nd floor. Basic cooking area, one small bedroom and small bathroom (did not see contents). Basic necessities only. Rode on motorcycles to see where their drinking water come from in a different community. Rode motorcycles back to our new boat. Boat back across the muddy river to a different, but still filthy, dock. We took a cab back to our hotel from this point. Definitely a different experience and one we should all take to see what life if like for other people.
