First time visiting for two days. The room was sufficient but had a musty air, not uncomfortable but noticeable. Looked forward to getting out to the beach. waited for the shuttle advertised running every 30 minutes (nothing specific for that stop) from 8-5. Waited, waited...asked staff ( had trouble communicating) who called and assured just 10 minutes...waited 45minutes. Same when looking to return. At NO TIME where we told the shuttle was only available upon request, contrary to the signs saying they run continuously.Called reception later and was told no buses are running as described with just an apology. Still no correction was made to the signs. I understand we are in a foreign country that is proud of their culture and language, but if you wish to attract English speaking guests more staff need to be dual language speakers or know how to find one. Overall the grounds look a bit in need of attention. The white beach tables and benches were covered in the morning with puddles of water and looked worn. There was no one who spoke English to answer questions. Some helpful guests provided translation.

The rancho is located at the foot of Carara National Park in a large tropical garden. The garden includes a swimming pool surrounded by lush vegetation. Breakfast is offered on a terrace that offers an exceptional view over the river Tarcoles, Carara Park and the Pacific.
Can highly recommend the Rancho Capulin! Everything about Claudine’s place is really lovely… the room, the facilities, the view, the garden, the pool, the breakfast. We loved it all. This was just a one night journey breaker for us, but we could have happily stayed 2 full days on the property without even stepping outside the door.

Strongly recommended for Birdwatchers and Photographers.
I liked the facility and people BUT the hotel is reached by a rough 3 km road so add 15 minutes to go to park, attractions or restaurants. The location is otherwise very good. I would stay there again.

Disfrute de una placentera estadía rodeado de exuberante naturaleza de bosque lluvioso.
This is an older property, looks and feels that way. Rooms have not been upgraded...slight gaps in closed doors let snake into room. Power went out occasionally, room very dreary, power plugs not convenient. Old furnishings. Food okay, but nothing spectacular...basic menu, but edible. Overall, would not stay here again. Walls between rooms VERY thin...nice if you want to hear neighbors sex.

Welcome to the hotel carara. Enjoy a tropical paradise on the beach closest to the carara national park. You will see many birds and especially the scarlet macao, ara macao, lapa roja. Pool, restaurant and secure parking in confortable rooms with a/c and ocean view.we wait
Yes - the rooms are complete dumps, as other reviewers have noted. The initial impression at arrival is good, since the pool / restaurant appearance is nice. But I think that's just for the tourism buses that pull up for lunch (it's close to the crocodile boat tours). For guests, it's a different story. But even worse than the horrible rooms is the complete lack of security. This place has the distinct honor of being the ONLY hotel in my estimated 1000 nights spent in hotels, where my room was broken into and my computer tablets stolen. And, because of the timing and the environs, I'm sure it was the hotel staff that did it... Run - don't walk away from this place!!!
