What a lovely place to stay. We were made to feel so welcome by the owners. The room was lovely and the bed was so comfortable. A genuine homely bar with genuine lovely people. Fantastic value, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended.

At the Punch Bowl Inn we offer fantastic value for money rooms. We are based in Craghead, County Durham, about 8 miles from Durham City and its historic Cathedral. The Punch Bowl Inn is within easy access of major transport routes with the A1 motorway just down the road. There are plenty of things to see in and around the County Durham area and are all within an hours commuting distance.
I was absolutely blown away by the Punch Bowl. My reasons for this could go on but in summary; Their range of drinks is outstanding. The gins and cocktails are second to none and the prices are unbeatable. The food is incredible. I had the homemade soup and the prawn gamberoni and it was outstanding. The food was fresh and the best I’ve had in a long time. The staff were incredible and ever so friendly. My father always said “you can always judge a place by its toilets” and the toilets had free sanitary products for women. I was absolutely amazed and it was not what I was expecting at all. Couldn’t be happier; great food, great staff and amazing prices! Will absolutely be back. Thank you!

We stayed for 4 nights in Room 1, an apartment. It definitely doesn't look like the apartment advertised online but hey, we will go with. Was a little disappointed with a few things that I'm sure the hotel could fix. 1. The oven in our room had no handle on the door so would be considered dangerous to use however, it also contained no grill shelves or trays so I couldn't have used it if I wanted to. This would be an issue if maybe people had young children or dietary needs and they wanted to cook themselves or were just keeping to a budget. 2. The microwave door looked like someone had punched it. Again no biggie but doesn't look good. 3. The window only opened slightly and only one opened. We asked for the key to the other two windows but were refused on the basis of security. Surely if one window can open then two can??? It was extremely hot in the room and we had to put a shoe in the main door to try and get some more air. 4. I think they were having a problem with the drains, as the shower wouldn't drain away which was a bit concerning once the water got near the shower door. 5. Lastly, I think breakfast service should be reviewed. Time is 7-9am however, if you have been out the night previous it's a struggle to get up for this. However McDonald's is a hop and skip away. Other than the above it was a good base for us. With a bit of effort this could be a lovely place. Special mention to Sue who goes above and beyond should you need anything, she is a credit to the hotel.

We stayed for 2 nights, Friday to Sunday in a 2 bedroom static van. The van was lightly used and immaculate with central heating throughout and a modern electric fire in the lounge area. It was equipped with basics only negative is that there was only 3 mugs and not enough cutlery for a 6 birth van. The site is very peaceful, there’s a little shop with a friendly lady serving, clubhouse (new one been built looks interesting) a park for the kids and facilities for the campers we obviously didn’t need to use. Unfortunately the clubhouse doesn’t serve food but the nearest pub Shepard and Shepherdess is approx 20 min walk away if you fancy walking on the road (no paths) or a few mins drive away. They serve delicious good value home cooked food. We also visited Beamish Museum and overall had a lovely stay.
