My girlfriend and I had a wonderful weekend staying in one of the well appointed "Kota" lodges at Camping des Blats. The camp grounds are extremely peaceful, and you can faintly hear the river and birds chirping at all times. The surrounding landscape is even more stunning, full of quaint French villages, breathtaking mountain ranges (highly recommend the 20 minute hike to the summit of Puy Mary), the occasional Chateau, and rolling green hills.

Our goal was a walk on the Puy Mary and then travel in south east, this hotel was conveneintly located and a good price too so we ended up there. Easy to find just at the road. It is a through road so kep that in mind, daytime there is traffic quiet a bit so select a room on the offroad side (which is actually the front, valley side). Modern rooms, spacious enough, bath, adequate, clean, in good state of repair. All in all good for night over.

This was our second visit and it won't be our last! Beautifully situated in the heart of the Cantal countryside, with stunning mountain views and all amenities within easy reach, La Grange du Devezou is the perfect getaway for nature lovers, sports enthusiasts and those in search of a place to unwind. The owners and staff were dedicated to making sure we made the most of our visits to this spectacular part of France and were particularly helpful in recommending walking routes, restaurants and places to visit nearby. The pool and terrace was most welcome after a hard day's climb up the nearby Puy Griou. The standard of accommodation is second to none, our apartment was spacious, very well appointed and immaculately clean and there is a magnificent communal salon, ideal for reading, relaxing and meeting other guests. We've visited in winter and taken advantage of the excellent winter sports facilities as well as late summer and can recommend La Grange as a great place for all seasons.

Les Sources was built in the 19th century as a mountain inn. Over the past few years it has been sympathetically converted into an exceptional family home, bringing it into the 21st century. The house has been modernised to a very high standard and all en-suite guest rooms enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and valley. The Cantal Mountains, situated in the South West corner of the Auvergne, constitute the largest volcanic massif in Europe.
Spent two fabulous nights at this spectacularly located B&B. The hosts went above and beyond to ensure we wanted for nothing. Their suggestions for sightseeing the area was appreciated and we spent a glorious day driving and visiting local villages (Salers in particular-just gorgeous). Sandy & Ross kept us well fed and the breakfast croissants and dinners were a highlight. Well appointed rooms/bathrooms with little touches to please. Throughly recommend this spot! Must return in the winter time!!

At the foot of the Monts du Cantal in the picturesque village of Saint-Jacques-des-Blats, the Hotel Le Brunet welcomes you. Let yourself be charmed by the authenticity of this region at the foot of the ski trails of Le Lioran which will offer great memories of snow in winter and sunbathing in summer.
We stayed in this hotel as we went skiing at Le Lorian which is only 10 mins drive away. The location was very good and the views of the mountains stunning. The hotel is situated down a steep slope so if you are staying here in the winter, you will need snow chains as very icy. However, the hotel itself was not a good experience. They are running the hotel with just one member of staff who is on reception, waitressing and am sure also cleans the rooms. When we stayed, the hotel was full - 16 rooms. At dinner, you only have a choice of 2 starters, mains and pudding all on a set menu. We booked into the restaurant at 7.30pm and by 9pm were still waiting for our main course. What annoyed us the most, was that everyone else who had arrived after us, had been served their starters, mains and were onto their desserts before us. With 2 young children, this is a long time to wait. When asking the waitress if there was a problem in the kitchen, she just said she was very busy. I asked if there was an apology for the time it is taking and after that, she threw down the basket of bread on our table and was extremely rude and unprofessional. We decided to walk out having had no dinner. In the morning however, the manager approached us and knew what had happened and apologised. She made the rest of the stay much better and ensured we had everything we needed. The hotel does need a make over, it is very tired and the furniture and beds in the rooms old. There was a thought that crossed our minds about fire safety. On the first morning, we wanted to leave before breakfast (having not received a pleasant experience from the night before at dinner) but we couldn't get out the main door as it had been locked and the key behind reception somewhere. We had to find the waitress (again, one member of staff to do everything) and she opened up for us. What would have happened if there was a fire and no-one could get out as I'm sure this is the only door in the hotel.
