Tuk-Tuk Timbul, which means "Arising Peninsula", is located at the shore line of Lake Toba between the well known peninsula "Tuk Tuk Siadong" and the village of Ambarita. We, the family Siallagan, started to build up this place in the seventies as it was still just a bare rock in the lake making it suitable for nice bungalows. Over the years it has become what it is now - a little paradise for those who like it quiet, a little bit hidden and familial rather than busy and fancy. Generally all of our bungalows are basic, suitable for guests that are looking for non-expensive accommodation rather than for pricy international standard hotels. This is being reflected in our room rates. Our luxury is our great natural spot, hidden and quiet, where you won't find disturbing boat traffic or even road noises.
We stayed in the traditional bungalow which has Great Lake views, and is a nice place to chill out. The lodge is a short scooter ride from the centre of town which means that it is very quiet and secluded, but only 5 minutes from restaurants and cafes. The scooters they rent are in good condition, and the roads are all very good and easy to ride. They also helpfully arrived for ferry pick up from the hotel on the last day, and picked us up from the ferry which made life very easy!

If you’re looking for a romantic small hotel in Ambarita, look no further than Anju Cottages. Anju Cottages features room service. This was booked by my assistant for a group of 20, as a part of a team-building exercise. Nice location for accommodating groups, water sports just at your doorstep, bikes and motorbikes available for rental nearby, restaurants nearby, the Roy's band - a night time past-time for many youngsters and foreigners a mere 300m away down the road, souvenir shops at the entrance, etc etc. Checked in on a Saturday forenoon around 11am and Mariah, the front-end girl was swift and smart enough to check our group in trickling in small groups from multiple ferry boat trips. Hot water available, beds neat and clean (deluxe room), towels white, toothbrush and paste, soaps....all together with two bottles of potable water - that's a part of the package - a frugal nasi goreng breakfast with an omelette too. Toilet was clean with a western closet, water pressure good, running hot water available after the repaired the wiring connection at the geysers. Disadvantages are a tiresome car parking area, not many facilities available nearby (even to buy a shaving cream, have to go until Tomok a 5 km away!!), could be noisy with the open air karaoke (an advantage if groups and a disadvantage if couple/single), rooms are not sound-proof and one could hear what the other room activities are!!! For the money paid, i feel it is value except that there could be better guidance, maps, etc for non-native tourists. Sum-up - an okay safe place, could be better rated if services and facilities offered are more professional.

Leokap Homestay consisted of several rooms (Batak style) and we were greeted by the friendly staff on arrival. The ferry drops you off and picks you up about 100 m from the property. The owner has a warung across the road where we ate a good breakfast each morning (included in the room price, if you choose to). They also have a good menu and we had other meals there as well --- delicious local food. The property is near many restaurants and is an ideal place to stay by the lake. Bathroom and room were very spacious and we loved lying in the hammock on the terrace by the nice garden. Would certainly return here again.

Booked for deluxe room for a week.it was not deluxe room tho. The room we got only standard room,i m sure they have no idea about wht is deluxe room. They never clean our room or do turn down service, i have to find the staff to give me water and toilet paper. There are many hotels better around with good food. The only good thing they have is they have good view, but u cant really enjoy it coz so many people are not guest coming to this hotel for fishing.
