It ain’t Galway Kinlay

Dirty. Needs a DEEP clean. Daily cleaners work hard, but overall the place needs a bath. Front desk people are extremely helpful. But it was gross. Galway Kinlay is a 9.5, Dublin Kinlay is a 2.5. Please understand we want to come back, but the place needs a scrubbing and paint. NOT the day cleaners fault.

Noisy and unclean

Great location, but beside that don't recomend, cause it is very dirty and extremely noisy. People shouting, running and slaming doors with no intervention of the staff to quiet them down. The staff was quite nice at the frontdesk.

Worst hostel stay of my life.

Reviewed By 978allisonk

Currently staying here and hating it. Our overhead light doesn't work and hasn't been replaced since we arrived five days ago. The wifi is terrible. Can't even receive an email on their connection. So forget getting any work done. The stairwell door next to our room slams loudly every time someone uses it, shaking our wall. As does the one at reception, no idea why they haven't fixed this. The lobby was leaking from the ceiling as we arrived, a repairman had to enter our suite multiple times trying to see if it was coming from our room. (It wasn't) More than half the outlets on the beds don't work, making charging our phones very difficult. A cleaner came through our room during the day and left our first floor window open for birds or whoever to climb in and make themselves comfortable. The beds are so rickety that they shake violently when either top or bottom bunk moves. Also the ladder to the top bunk has a jagged edge so my fiancé cut his foot rather badly and the front desk could only offer us a new towel and some bandaids. They haven't responded to my complaints or fixed anything. I hate it here and want to leave but I can't get a refund. DO NOT STAY HERE. This doesn't even include the street noise which I understand is unavoidable. The lack of security, anyone can enter the hostel and use the elevator. But not the stairwell? Okay. I guess the one star I have to give is for the location, it's very central. This is my only compliment to this hostel.

They were fabulous

Reviewed By sondrag839

I was here with my husband for our first time trip to Europe. We were staying in a six dorm room. During out first night there, I received a terrible phone call that my dad was dying. I say this because the staff were amazing. They were able to provide us access to community room as they were completely booked up and I didn't want to disturb the other people in my room. I was also a mess, in providing me that access we were able to handle all of the business of the phone calls and sobbing along with book an flight home right away. They also helped us find the bus to the airport in the morning. They made what was a horrible emotional experience into something bearable and feeling manageable. I am so thankful we were staying here and not anywhere else. This is hands down somewhere i will come back to.

catastrophic experience

Reviewed By izaminguel

First of all, the hostel is not the building you see on the pictures. Avalon House is nowhere near a hygienic, safe or decent place to stay. Very noisy, dirty rooms without any privacy: there is a window above your door. There's only 4 showers and toilets for a whole (or even two) floors, which are very dirty too. The smell sometimes was so horrible we had to breathe throughout our mouths. The people that stayed here were terrifying and the staff was very unkind and not helpful. For your own safety and dignity, do not stay in the avalon house!

Alternatively you could catch one of the buses that run directly past our front door including the 16A bus that runs to and from Dublin Airport (TICKET 2.30 pp.). From O'Connell Street you can take buses 16, 16A, 19, 19A, 122 to our house. Also we are just 5 minutes walk away from Luas stop on Harcourt Street.

Simple, well-located, but not worth its price

Reviewed By GabiZ111

( + ) In a good location - in a walking distance to most of tourist attractions, direct bus to the airport. Couple of shops around. All amenities you may need in the hostel available and included in the price. ( - ) Very thin walls - you may hear everything people in other rooms are doing, including even plugging something to the socket... Very simple breakfast. Quite old furniture, not the cleanest room. For that price I could've expected a bit more.

A double room in temple bar for 34 euro.. how can you complain. It was clean and neat and i stayed in two rooms over two nights. The pics on here are not representive of now.. everything was fine. The ceilings are massive with old sash windows so it's cold if you dont turn the heating on in room. It's ryanair style but perfect for a budget traveller
