When was the last time you went out for a casual drive and ended up inside a volcano? A surreal scenario comes to life at La Soufrière, one of the most popular attractions in St. Lucia. Pack your skin with the medicinal mud of Sulfur Springs for a DIY spa treatment. Continue your eruptive adventures with a guided hike of the two volcanic plugs known as the Pitons then ascend Morne Fortune to take in the sweeping views. For an intimate beach experience, hit the private black sands of Anse Mamin.

Climbing Petit Piton will be one of the best hikes I ever do. The St. Lucian forest, the technicality of the trail as it turns from root grabbing to rock face scaling with rope and guide assistance, and the view of the island from the top is one of the best. Ashley Walking Tree (758-722-2413) met us at the main road turn to Sugar Beach and guided the four of us foot by foot, hand hold by hand hold for the next four hours. We are all in good physical shape, started the hike at 7:30am and were finished by 12:30. None of us had experienced a hike quite like this before and Walking Tree made it possible. He takes his job seriously and was able to help me (who's a shorter person) and people in our group who are sometimes afraid of heights. Without him the hike would have been much more difficult, and perhaps longer as the trail is not marked. Walking Tree's demeanor is calm, tells you we'll warm up the body for the first 1/4 of the trail, gauges comfort levels and offers step by step guidelines of how to easily work with the mountain to climb it. It was a great experience with him and I highly recommend the challenge. Walking Tree has 17 years experience hiking Petit Piton and has been teaching his son, Hennison (758-714-4213) to do the same. They can be reached at either number. We scheduled our trip only a day in advance.

A hiking trail winding along a number of scenic waterfalls.
We took a hike through the rain forest and it was like a dream! We were the only ones there besides some cool forest crabs and birds. Our wonderful guide, Jahrod, drove us there and guided us, educating us along the way about the lush flora and birds. It is a moderate hike and will take about 3 hours roundtrip. There was a lovely waterfall at the bottom of the trail and we took a dip. Contact Jahrod, he's your man! StluciaEcoAdventures.com. Tell him Angela referred you.

Tet Paul Nature Trail is situated in the south-western town of Soufriere, St. Lucia. Soufriere is approximately 42 km from the island's capital, Castries, and about 1 hour by bus or taxi and 35 minutes by boat. The trail itself is about a 10 minute drive from the town centre by bus and about 40 minutes on feet.
Jamal was a great guide (and awesome photographer!) and the hike was easy and non- strenuous with extremely rewarding views- a fantastic way to view the pitons and a must do when in St Lucia.

We hiked with our adult children, there were eight of us. The kids made it to the top before us. This was a very difficult hike as a great percentage of it was truly vertical! It felt like a 2 hour stair master workout on the highest and most difficult setting! The views were wonderful and worth it!! Bring lots of water!! Our guide was great yet the one the kids had was not the greatest! He started rushing us from the minute we drove up, not even letting me go back and get my cap! I should have put my foot down and not listened. 5 minutes after the kids got to the top, he was asking them to leave and start the descent. They said they wanted to wait for us and he responded that they weren’t even sure if we would make it to the top. They insisted on waiting and actually enjoying the view and recover from the hike. Overall, I would recommend if you are an avid and experienced hiker. We are regular hikers and this kicked my behind!
Hiking the Volga Nature trail is the perfect way to experience the most Scenic & spectacular views of St Lucia Pitons (Gros piton & Petit Piton) with Sugar beach laying in between. Best Hiking trail in St Lucia, taking a tour through Soufriere.
