Several times a week we walk one of the trails which are well laid out and challenging. Great venue for events, weddings, and sporting activities. Kayak rentals and launching availability, dog park and children’s playground are all features. Just steps from downtown historic Smithfield with shopping and fine restaurants. A prime weekend destination.

Happened to be visiting for the weekend and after a great breakfast we saw the Farmers Market, great atmosphere, numerous tents with all kinds of stuff for sale. Produce, arts and crafts, bread, meat you name it my friend bought some great looking embroidered towels. Music from a DJ and man I sure was disappointed I'd just had breakfast because there was some BBQ cooking right there that smelled so good. I'll just have to come back!

This is the place to get country ham, cut to order cheese, chocolate covered peanuts, homemade pot pie, and homemade chicken salad. Customer service is friendly and caring. It is a family run business. The owners know most local customers by name..

This building served as Isle of Wight County’s courthouse from 1752 until 1800. Curing this time it was the center of county colonial government. Completed in 1752, it is one of only four remaining arcaded colonial court buildings in Virginia and the only colonial courthouse boasting the distinctive semi-circular apse. In 1799, a clerk’s office was constructed adjacent to the courthouse.
This place is very educational and some good photo ops. Very well displays and volunteer docent was awesome with great stories to tell. Good exhibition.

This is the best Christmas store EVER! The people are nice, the inventory very complete, and the prices pretty fair. Lots of unusual items and when we were there a lot of Halloween stuff too. Great place!

It's important to read the signs at the front entrance that explain everything as there are not really any signs within the fort area itself. There are nice shady trails to walk. Its a great place to picnic or spend a relaxing day at the small beach on the calm James River. There are picnic tables and bbq grills at the front entrance too. Also, it is dog friendly. There are no buildings to see, but it is an interesting place to visit just because of how old it is and to see the earthworks.

Site has been restored and added signage for tour to understand the historical significance. Worth a visit
