This stunning Moroccan city in the Rif Mountains was originally built as a fortress in the 15th century. The mountains towering over Chefchaouen resemble a pair of goat’s horns, and, perhaps not coincidentally, the creamy native goat cheese is one of the most popular regional treats. Architecture enthusiasts will marvel at the Jewish-inspired blue-tinted buildings, octagonal mosque and Spanish ruins.

We had no intention of buying anything as we already had bought a rug in the desert, but upon seeing the rugs they had we ended up buying 2 pieces. The guys that work here are great, we actually spent 1.5 hours hanging out with them, talking and negotiating prices. They weren't pushy but of course they entice you to buy one of their great pieces and it will be hard to refuse when you see the rugs they pull out. We purchased a blanket that was made by their grandfather right in the store. They threw in a small rug that we were eyeing as well and gave us a deal that we couldn't refuse. Great experience and highly recommend you take a look here.

I have now been able to visit this fantastic shop on two occasions and both times was blown away by the kindness and incredible service we received inside. After visiting this shop once six months ago the shop owner remembered me today and invited me in for some tea and asked about my family (who he met on the previous visit). The quality of rug is excellent - best I've seen in Morocco I think. This store is certainly a must see in Chefchaouen.

Cascades d'Akchour are located near Chefchaouen, a wonderful town in the. North of Morocco. In fact, the roite from Chefchaouen to Akchour is fantastic, you can see some beautiful landscapes of Rif Mountains. In Akchour, it is possible to do a hikking to the waterfalls. From the parking, if you walk 45minutes in the correct direction, you arrive to some little waterfalls. It is a perfect excursion to do with children and olders and at the end you can see beautiful waterfalls, while you drink a tea. Also, if you continue, in about 90minutes, you arrive to the best waterfall: a big one with a very beautiful lake, where you can relax and drink a coffe, while you see the most beautiful views of the place. This part is for adults, but not for children or olders. It is not difficult, but sometimes you need to walk on a tree trunk to pass the river or jump between rocks. The excursion is beautiful and the final waterfall is great!

Follow your nose to La Botica de la Abuela Aladdin, a soap and scent shop nestled in one of the main streets of Chefchaouen. Stacked from floor to ceiling with soaps, bath salts, lotions, perfumes, incense, and long-lasting fragrance oils available in small roll-on bottles which make perfect souvenirs, the small store can be compared to Aladdin's cave of fragrances. The staff will let you take time to look and smell around as well as to try out some of the products, offering their help only if you ask for it. To visit La Botica de la Abuela Aladdin on your holiday in Chefchaouen, and find out what else Chefchaouen has to offer.
So much shopping in Morocco is high pressure sales or, at least, a slightly awkward experience as the owner watches you intently, with high hopes of making a sale. This shop couldn't be more different: It is a two story shop simply filled with an enormous selection of nicely displayed soaps and oils. You can grab a small basket in which to collect your choices as you browse, inhaling the intoxicating, exotic scents as you go. Prices are clearly marked and very fair: about $3 for a good sized bar of soap. There are also cleverly bundled groups of 4 to 6 bars of soap, which make great gifts. The owner busies himself on the second floor, until you have a question or are ready to make your purchase. All & all, a lovely shop with great products and a nice shopping experience. Go!

It was an easy hike up the mountain to the Spanish mosque which rewarded us with a magnificent panoramic view of Chefchaouen. We hiked up the back way from the car park area via a goat path near the cemetery. We hiked down a path that had steps that seemed like the more public way to go to and from. Frankly the hike up was more enjoyable. Spectacular view!

Place Outa el Hammam is the main square of the Medina of the fantastic town of Chefchaouen, in the North of Morocco. This is a place, where you can see the main Kasbah (the most important and historical building in the town, now a museum), the Big Mosque (the most important religious building in the town) and some souvenir shops and restaurants. Also it is close the Medina, so it is a very good place to begin or finish the walk around the old town. Here is where people meet and always there are music and shows. Lunch or dinner herr, while you see people is fantastic. (see also Chefchaouen Medina, Kasbah Museum, Grand Mosque, Spanish Mosque, Ras el Maa Waterfall, Chefchaouen Cemetery and Bab Kasaba Restaurant)

After the Kasbah this is the most important building of Chefchaouen. It was built back in the fifteenth century. It has wonderful architecture with an unusual staircase and an octagonal minaret. As it is a functioning mosque, non Muslims cannot enter it.

The waterfall of Ras el-Maa is just beyond the far Northeastern gate of Chefchaouen Medina. It’s here, where the water comes gushing out of the mountain, that local women come to do their washing. The sound of the water and the verdant hills provide a sudden, strong dose of nature. N.B. It is a public place and so should not be tagged to me. I'm just surprised it isn't listed on trip advisor
Saw the little building at the base of the hillside / cliff where the spring source flows from. So crystal clear. The towns entire supply is from this source as you can see the pumping station building next to it. Then further down you can see the locals laundry basins on each sided where the locals use it each day. In between them you can see rugs & carpets with stones holding the corners being washed by the flowing waters. All a part of this lively little community, which isn’t all just about tourism. It’s still a home to many families.
