Tea Town Munnar is located in the Upper Surianalle Estate, Devikulam, spread over 638 hectatare of tea cultivation. It is the highest tea growing region in the world. The closeness to Annaimudi the highest peak in South India and the Eravikulam National Park famed for Nilgiri Thar adds to the pristine nature of these hills. It is home to the Surianalle Tea, one of the finest tea in the world.
Stayed in 1938 Planter's Bunglow in Upper Surianelle of Harrison's Malayalam Ltd (HML) Two days of immersive experience of a bygone era spiced with tea-tasting, unforgetable jeep safari(not for the faint hearted) to Kollukumalai view point wrapped in mist and trekking through the high range tea gardens. The halmark of the vacation was the hospitality of New Ventures Division of HML made memorable by excellent coordination by NS Vinod, Ashishdev, Franklin and sumptous spread by butler Selvaraj and his assistants ! " A must visit " is this Tea Town of Upper Surianelle especially if you want to unwind and taste an era that only you heard of in books, stories and movies !!

We visited this on our recent trip with Calypso Tours around S India. What a brilliant visit and talk from local bee keeper Tom Philip’s. These guys know their stuff and my friends and I loved being able to stand next to an open hive, taste honey direct from the comb, all whilst the 1000s if bees buzzed around doing their work. Highly recommended. Honey tastes lovely and can be procured.

The showcase garden and the adjacent larger plantation at Cinnamon Gardens Spices Plantation, Munnar houses over 100 species of spices, herbs, ayurvedic medicinal and economically important tropical plants. Enjoy the guided spice garden tours and be enthralled by the varieties of spices from the world over!
We were staying in Munnar for one night and top on our list was to visit a tea & spice plantation. After being let down last minute by our hotel who had promised this we came to hear about Cinnamon gardens spice plantation. Unsure of what to expect we took a scenic 20 minute tuc tuc journey to the Cinnamon gardens, passing the dramatic scenes of the Munnar landscape and many tea plantations. Upon arrival we were greeted by Mathews whowas both friendly and welcoming. The entry fee was 100 rs per person (£1). Mathews conducted our tour which in total lasted 90mins. Mathews made the tour so engaging with his vast amount of knowledge and expertise. Knowing we came from health backgrounds Mathews tailored the tour with so many incredible facts about the human body and the role of herbal medicine. The tour was made to be interactive where you could ask questions, touch and try a lot of the herbs and spices. The garden was In abundance of different species of flora and and the sound of the birds and insects was stunning. I would really recommend this trip for anyone interested in plants, health, cooking or general Indian culture and tradition. Towards the end of the tour we were able to observe some of the employees dry the pepper corns and also watch the process where the pepper corns are separated from the main plant. At the end of the tour we were taken to the gardens outlet shop where you have the opportunity to buy and sample some of the gardens products. The sales technique was not pushy but was informative and interactive. The products were nicely packaged and I considered the prices to be fair. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. Best wishes Polly and Johnny

From the Govt. Of Kerla - The Guided tour is informative, gives us knowledge of Ayurveda, refreshing what most of us studied in school ( Medicinal Properties of Plants) or better yet told by our parents and grandparents. Advantages of using Ayurveda - is using it long term. It is not a quick fix. They also have store where you can buy - using a guided menu / flyer.
