Tulbagh is a gem. From the beautifully renovated houses of Church Street, to the great museums, superb restaurants and wine farms both in and around the town, and wonderful people that live there, it’s a fabulous place to spend a weekend. Be warned, you’ll want to stay a week ... or two!

Unbelievable setting. Service was great. The full circle, which is available for tasting, is probably the best red I have ever had.

My family and I were so excited to visit this waterfall, it has become a bit of a tradition to visit the local waterfall when we go away. After being cooped up for months in lockdown because of covid-19 we were absolutely thrilled to be in the open air and enjoying the beauty of this area. Because of the excellent rains this winter, the waterfall was gushing at full speed and what an amazing experience. The sound of the rushing water, the cool spray and the stunning views just made this so special. The hike up to the top part of the fall is pretty steep but doable. Wearing sensible shoes will be advisable. A really wonderful experience for my hubby and I but my boys thought it was so awesome! We love being in nature and this was a treat. Don't forget to obtain a permit from the Tulbagh Tourism office which is in Church Street. Friendly and helpful staff!

We had the wine tasting in the forest, surrounded by butterflies and birds, absolutely beautiful!! Wines are well presented by Emanuel. Also had their cheese board that was really good. There are a few places to taste wine at here, I suggest to do it in the forest. Well done!

If anyone wants to learn about the devastating earthquake that befell Tulbagh in 1969, this is the place to go. A well informed member of the museum gave a detailed explanation of what happened and the effect it had on the local community. The display and photographs are well set out and the museum also gives the history of the town itself. Don't miss out on this one!

Matroosberg Reserve, is a Private Nature Reserve 35km outside of Ceres, well known for it's snow during winter and beautiful summer days and crystal pools during summer. Matroosberg Peak is also the highest mountain in the Boland region and because the owners of Matroosberg value Family Life and Adventure, we refer to Matroosberg as Peak of Life or Peak of Adventure. We offer a wide range of activities, have one of the top 10 4x4 trails in SA. But even though we are a big establishment, you will still receive personal attention from the family who owns it, for they really go the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable as possible. This is one of the only self catering establishments, where you can have the services of a butler...how cool is that... Matroosberg offers Hotel service, for guests with an self-catering budget!
It was great news having snow fall near Cape Town. During covid, any great news is welcomed. It was five days after the snow fell but our first day as a family which we were able to get out which was a Friday. So Padkos “road food” was made for the 2,5 hours road trip. It was a sunny day so we were worried that the snow may have melted. There about 6 people in the queue but this was very efficiently handled. The more off road your vehicle the closer one would be able to drive to the snow. Our all road vehicle took us half way so we had a 20 minute walk and there it was, the snow. Not tons of snow but a fair amount
