Ptuj (pronounced [ˈptuːi̯] ( listen); German: Pettau; Latin: Poetovium/Poetovio) is a town in northeastern Slovenia that is the seat of the Municipality of Ptuj. Ptuj, the oldest recorded city in Slovenia, has been inhabited since the late Stone Age and developed from a Roman military fort. Ptuj was located at a strategically important crossing of the Drava River, along a prehistoric trade route between the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic. Traditionally the area was part of the Styria region and became part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. In the early 20th century the majority of the residents were of German extraction, but today the population is largely Slovenes. Residents of Ptuj are known as Ptujčani.

The castle is in a beautiful location. Great views of the city and the Drava River. The exhibitions are interesting and rich in sights. The castle is easily accessible from the city. A short walk down a small slope.

Marble chiseled to a tombstone and an artistic masterpiece. Visitors can walk around for free or even sit down and have refreshment in the shadow of the Town tower. Monument is an ideal spot for a selfie.

Great building in the center of a very nice little town. Good to look at. Proportional, pleasant-looking, very cozy, with a real small-town feel. Small streets around it, good cafes, well worth a walk in the morning.

It is practically impossible to miss the city tower. It is interesting not only because of its baroque onion dome, but also the antique monuments in its walls. An attentive visitor will notice that the tower only has a clock on three sides. Citizens decided not to put a clock on the wall facing the castle as a sign of protest when the lords of the castle refused to pay their share.
Must go there and visit this old City of Ptuj. Narrow street made of stones, lot of old buildings, Churches and walking distance to The Ptuj Castle

We enjoyed the thermal pools and the sauna park. We felt very relaxed afterwards. It is cheaper for pensioners.
