The Esplanade is where arts and heritage come to life in Medicine Hat, where the stories of our great collective culture are told through music and dance, theatre, painting and sculpture, exhibitions and installations, artifacts, objets d’art and more. Inside, visitors are delighted to discover a vibrant art gallery, a prized museum, an intimate studio theatre, a dynamic education suite, expansive public archives and many volunteers and staff who are eager to tell their versions of our city’s tale. The Esplanade also features a 700-seat main stage theatre which boasts superior theatre technology, acoustic perfection and striking interior design. In the northeast corner of the grounds stands another inviting building with stories of its own to tell. With its white picket fence, gingerbread trim and quaint heritage gardens, the restored Ewart Duggan House, the oldest brick home in Alberta still on its original foundation built with locally produced bricks, is open year-round.
This museum boasts local heritage resources, well presented displays, books and arts/entertainment in a full stage with wonderful acoustics. The Esplandade has an atrium for artistic settings and small gatherings. Weddings are common in here. The grounds have statutory honoring immigrants and local fisherman.

Medalta was a very successful ceramic production facility in its day. The kilns are interesting to see as is the original studio where the production took place, with a rotating kiln . A charming art gallery with good ceramic displays is also on the site .The large round kilns were for firing bricks. Good place to see.

We go there for the great walking trails, river views and wildlife. Add to that it's a great place to hide and hunt rocks! Generally we go there once a week and have found most fellow visitors sensible during the pandemic!

This is a fantastic place for walking all year round and for tobogganing in winter and for all kinds of activities in summer. The trails connect via tunnel under the highway to even more park space on the South side of the trans Canada. If you access from the South side you see the Teepee (Canada’s tallest) and the Tourist info centre; most tourists would access the park from this side. But take the trail that goes past the TP and go down the hill into the park and you can walk the extensive trails for a good hour if you have time. The golf course is right here too.

This grande old theater is wonderfully restored and is a true piece of Medicine Hats history! They show movies and can be rented out for all types of venues. Concerts, weddings, funerals are just a few of the things happening there. Winter time you will find a selection of free movies on a Saturday afternoon for the kids or at Easter time. This theatre is a must to visit!

The Medicine Hat Visitor Information Centre offers travellers a wealth of information on attractions within Medicine Hat and surrounding region. As a gateway to the Alberta Badlands, Medicine Hat is a hub for cultural and outdoor attractions within the city as well as day trips to nearby outdoor experiences.
Situated alongside the Trans Canada Highway, the Medicine Hat Tourist Center is a nice convenient stop for weary travellers at any time. There is ample parking and a nice playground for the kids to let off some energy. There are picnic tables if this is your lunch stop with access to nice clean washrooms inside. The desk staff are helpful and like any other Alberta tourist center, there are lots of pamphlets to pick up for information on tourist activities in the surrounding area. There are lots of local, Medicine Hat souvenirs that you can pick up if you are collecting, and a few nonperishable food items from local food artisans. But Sundays in the summer (May into September) are when this becomes a real frenzy of activity. From 11 o'clock until after 2 PM the local food trucks congregate in the parking lot and locals line up for their favorites. Rain or shine there are always at least four or five food trucks and sometimes up to nine or ten. Even during this busy time, access is maintained to the trailer dump station and at the end of a busy weekend or a long weekend there are often five or six units lined up waiting to dump at this efficient location.

This tepee was used to stand at the Olympic 1988 in Calgary and then was placed at this location. In the tepee there is enough information about he history of Medicine Hat and the native people. It seems that Canada likes to have something 'extraordinary' things such the largest...... tomahawk, baseball bat and many others... scattering around the land. But this Giant Tepee is the best of all, it is one of a kind. You can see the tepee from a distance, 2 minutes driving from the tourist information centre. The area is also an archeological site. It is a must visit place.
