Scenic forest located in England's Lake District that serves as a recreation center for hiking and mountain biking, plus an outdoor "art museum" with numerous sculptures scattered throughout the forest.
This place is fantastic! There are a huge range of activities and trails to explore - bikes to hire, a children's play area, informative staff, basic cafe, Go Ape centre, fabulous pottery and printmaking businesses, art displays, and gorgeous natural attractions. With four hard-to-please London teenagers, it was touch and go as to whether they would be entertained by a day in 'the outdoors' but we chose the orienteering course and they spent a fabulous couple of hours, getting somewhat lost, but then finding their way back. Super that you can bring your dog and let them off-lead. It's a beautiful place with well-marked trails and differing levels of challenge depending on your fitness/time-constraints. Parking isn't cheap (£8 for the day) but it is plentiful. We brought a packed lunch and enjoyed ice-cream/drinks only at the cafe. As in all these places, the food is average and overpriced, but at least there are options if you don't have enough with you! I thoroughly recommend the forest for a great day out (with or without dog and/or children). Had the children not got lost on the orienteering course, we could have done another walk and also a Go Ape adventure.

This quirky building in the heart of Hawkshead displays original watercolours and work by Beatrix Potter, from the National Trust collection. It's the only place you can step inside the famous tales and get up-close to the original illustrations.
What a fantastic little place this is, many interesting g things to see and read, a lovely in sight to the life to the brilliantly talented Beatrix Potter, Staff are extremely friendly and polite and very knowledgeable. Would def return and 100% recommended

Do visit Brantwood - at any time of the year! It was too wet to visit the gardens but we had a leisurely visit of the house which held loads of interesting artefacts and information of historical interest, particularly as we had visited Blackwell earlier in the day and were able to make links between people, places and the ideology of the time. Set in an amazing location, which we didn't see the best of due to the poor weather, but would visit again to enjoy the gardens and the views across Coniston water.

Unexpectedly inexpensive tour conducted by a knowledgeable and delightful fellow who made the history of the school come alive. Established in 1585 and attended by William Wordsworth - a trove of treasures and stories contained within. Fascinating and ceratinly well worth a visit.

Hill Top was Beatrix Potter's most beloved place, packed full of her favourite things and left just as she wanted it for visitors to enjoy. You will see why she loved it so much and used it and the surrounding countryside as inspiration for many of her famous children's tales. Your visit helps the National Trust continue her work to look after the Lake District.

Hawkshead Hall farm a picturesque working farm set in 100 acres of unspoilt countryside in the heart of the Lake District. Just a quarter of a mile from the village of Hawkshead linked by a footpath from the site through the fields. The campsite has superb views on all sides of the surrounding area. There are lots of great walks from the doorstep and an abundance of wildlife deer, foxes, squirrels, swallows, curlews along with some friendly farm animals. Hawkshead Hall Farm offers camping and touring caravan pitches with or without electric hook up. There is a modern toilet and shower block with shaving points and electric sockets. A fridge for freezing ice packs, maps, information and brochures on the local area are available from reception. Pitches are unallocated, clients choose where to pitch upon arrival. Booking is advised
This is a small site set in beautiful scenery and about 10 mins walk from Hawkshead along a footpath following a stream. The facilities on this site were spotlessly clean and I would definitely use this site again.
