8 Traveler Resources in Cardiff That You Shouldn't Miss

March 12, 2022 Alice Mieles

The Welsh capital may have begun its life as a Roman fort, but it's since become a bustling city. Where the fort once stood, Cardiff Castle has held court since the 11th century. It remains a central presence in the city, now full of lively art and music venues, hip boutiques, fun bars and modern hotels. Even with so many new and exciting things to see, the National History Museum is still the most visited attraction in Wales. Don't be the only visitor who plays hooky!

Fabulous facilities, free computer access 1/2 -1 hour sessions, don't have to be a member just ask librarian staff to log you on as a visitor. Never seen so many books in one place in my life, as you would expect covering all subjects from A to Z. A lot of financial investment has gone into this public facility, it's Gigantic compared to some other libraries I have visited,it makes the one in my home town look like A Pop Up Job. Envy isn't a nice trait, and I'm trying not to be, and yes I didn't mind jumping through the big silver hoop outside to gain entry to this wonderfull bookworms paradise.

Tramshed Cardiff

I love this venue. It's tiny, and I mean smaller than my old school hall tiny. But it really allows for that intimate gig feel. I've been twice so far, to see The Feeling and Scouting for Girls, and both were so much fun. The room was packed and I was close enough to both acts to look them in the eye. There's also a real feeling of coming together when that little place is filled with the sound of people singing along. If I lived in Cardiff I'd be here all the time.

Firstly, I see from other reviewers that a big criticism of this facility is it's small size. However, given that there is limited scope for expanded building works on any of the Cardiff Central platforms, only perhaps a future takeover of one of the retail units at ground level would provide the necessary expansion. Not happening soon! Given these constraints I felt the staff and company have done a great job to offer, at least something, in a friendly and efficient manner. On the day of my visit it was nicely decked out with Christmas decorations and there was a full stock of the (free) drinks, snacks and newspapers, etc. you'd expect from such a lounge. A nice touch were the bookshelves full of books for sale (at a nominal £1 - all proceeds to charity); very helpful for anyone wanting a long read at short notice! There is an in-lounge display screen showing departures in the coming hour (over two pages) but the staff can usually accurately predict platforms even before they are shown. And on the day of my visit the staff were very friendly and helpful which was a credit to their company.
