The flexibility to chose locations that suited our wants and abilities was great. Hiro San was very quick to put together an itinerary that accommodated a family with a stroller-baby (no monkey park due to long unpacked walking paths). Taking in the beautiful temples and view of the Kyoto from the west was breath taking and the guide was able to explain many things we as new Japanese learners could not read or know through cultural knowledge. Overall a great experience, a wonderful and lively guide, and some great memories.

In short: Our instructor was lovely and even though the conditions didn't allow us to go to the blue cave, it was still pretty nice. We didn't get an instructor who usually take English customers, but she did a great job still! Warning: If you order this experience on tripadvisor you can't provide info on which language you prefer, but on the ticket says "English, Chinese, Korean guide available!", which may mislead you to think an instrsuctor in your language is available. We tried to be on the safe side and used the "Contact Tour Operator" right after ordering to inform we needed an English speaking instructor. We never got a reply. Just in case, we called in Japanese the day before. We got blamed for not informing them, and that we should have put it in the form, but there was no option for it... They are also slow to pick up the phone, but they do call you back. So please learn from us and order from their website, which I assum has an option for language preference. It is also hard to find them when you arrive, because there are so many services like theirs there, so come a little earlier! As for the experience it self: The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The area is beautiful with colorful fish! We got some great pictures and overall happy that we went despite the shakey start.

We hired a private transfer from the Narita airport to Tokyo. Kevin really understood well our requests and gave us great advice on our trip, especially during these difficult times. Our van was nice and spacious. The driver was great as well. There was some confusion on the location of our hotel (mainly because of Google Maps giving the hotel a different name) but it was sorted out quickly. When we accidentally left one of our bags in the van, the driver returned it on the same day safe and sound. I highly recommend their service.

While we were sad to have to cancel our July trip to Japan due to the pandemic, we found the process of working with Japan Awaits to be easy and efficient. I can't speak to the full experience since we weren't able to go, but filling out the form and our communication with the company was no problem. And their prompt and courteous response to our request for a refund speaks to their professionalism. We will definitely come back to ask for their help in procuring tickets to the Studio Ghibli Museum when we do finally make it to Japan! Fingers crossed for next summer.
