Unexpected welcome

Reviewed By mike385

We didn’t know much about Opotiki but decided that was a good reason to stay a night. Random selection took us to this place and we were delighted with the communications before we arrived. Our allocated room was spacious with air con and microwave. The bed was very comfy. The crowning glory was the helpful hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble. We thought that we would be just about the only people in the place but it was fully booked. Opotiki isn’t quite the backwater we thought it was and it is helped by people such as our hosts at Eastern Pacific. Recommend.

Gorgeous studio accommodation with a romantic feel

Reviewed By Wendy1241

As travellers who prefer to stay near the coast, we found this accommodation exceeded our expectations. The studio was bright, clean and tastefully decorated, with a large spa bath, pretty views of the sea from the dining area and bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. Loved the attention to detail. It had everything we needed, including a generous sized container of good quality plunger coffee (a must have with no cafe nearby!) There is a guest garden with seating that overlooks Ohiwa and the coast down towards Opotiki. We enjoyed a glass of wine there in the evening, taking in the spectacular views. As the studios are on a hillside property, there is quite a steep driveway and a few steps to negotiate, but all worth the effort! Opotiki is approximately 10 minutes (beautiful) drive away. We would love to stay there again sometime and can’t recommend it highly enough!

Good spot for the night

We put our campervan on this site. It's a little rustic although the showers were clean and hot (although on a token). There were quite a lot of dogs running around. It's not a particularly scenic park but it was nice and quiet and a great location for walking to the bars and restaurants. Staff were friendly. Lots of amenities nearby and we went for a great walk along a cycleway running by the stunning beach.

Capeview Cottage

A luxury cottage in the country with fantastic views of countryside, sea and the East Cape Mountains. Quiet and secluded its the ideal getaway, but with all the comforts of home including SKY TV, Free Wi-Fi and Coffee Machine. Two identical double bedrooms upstairs with open plan living downstairs, full kitchen and laundry facilities means it an ideal place for longer stays. Outside is your own garden, lawn, bar-b-que area and private access. With very little light pollution this is a great spot for star gazing at night, or during the daylight hours taking on the challenges of the nearby Motu Bike or perhaps a visit by launch to White Island an active Volcano 50km off-shore. Alternatively laze on the lawn, read a book or just lay-back and listen to the 25+ different bird varieties in our area. Please book early for the summer. To get to Capeview Cottage, drive to Opotiki. Its a small town and you should have no trouble finding 'St John's Street' - Opotiki College, SPCA, St Johns Church and Caltex Opotiki are all located in this street. Head North on St Johns until you get to the round-about with directions for Te Kaha and SH35. ONE kilometre after the round-about is Gows Road on the right and a BIG blue Capeview Cottage sign. Turn right into Gows, follow this road for 3 Km, up the hill until you get to Tablelands/Walkers Road intersection where they'll be another 'Capeview' sign. Turn right into Tablelands Rd and 200 metres on the left is another Capeview sign pointing you down through the orchard to the cottage.

Great start to summer

I don't normally review anything unless I am either very impressed or the opposite. In this case "impressed" an under statement. I can say from many family trips & stays near & far that the cottage sits in my top 5 choices. The hosts were amazing & so kick back which made my family feel at ease right away. And the cottage itself has everything a family like mine needs. The view was amazing. Only downside was having to leave. I hope to stay again soon.

Kowhai Rest

A blissful stay in Opotiki

Reviewed By KiwiTravellers2015

My wife and I have just enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay at Kowhai Rest with amazing hosts Kevin and Vicki. Lovely comfortable bed with or own lounge, spotlessly clean, fabulous breakfast every morning, including top coffee, all wrapped up with their great hospitality. Loved just chatting with them and learned a great quick orange cake recipe from Vicki, she is a whiz in the kitchen. The lovely grounds, the fruit trees, the livestock all add to a memorable Opotiki experience. We can thoroughly recommend it

BED BUGS

Reviewed By U691FNnatalian

BE CAREFUL - BED BUGS!!! I have no idea how it was here before but now it's only one room with four beds. First night I spent in bed when it was a lot of bed bugs. I couldn't sleep at all because they was really everywhere, I killed at least 20. I told them about it, they sprayed this bed and move me to another bed. In the other bed it was better, I found 2 bed bugs in the night but anyway that's totally not unacceptable. I started looking for a new place and move out after 3 nights. I stayed for 3 nights because after first night I just decided give them a chance... They looks like a nice people so I was waiting what they gonna do about bugs. To be honest they don't care, I was totally honest with them and when I was packing everything they just went to their room (they're living there too). I paid for all week and lost my money for half week (they not even offered return money for half week even they know why I'm left) but that's fine because before I wasn't sure if I should write about it and their last behavior just helped me
