Lovely hotel and so family friendly!

We stayed here for a few nights with our 1 year old, from start to finish the service was great! The food was delicious and the staff in the Arkle bar were so friendly! Our daughter was able to run about the lobby and the receptionists smiled and spoke to her, one male receptionist in particular gave our daughter a little toy which she didn’t put down the whole trip which was so kind of him! Such a great hotel and walking distance to the Main Street, also has a SuperValu right next to it which is really handy! The pool was also excellent, overall we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back. It’s only a short 20 minute drive to Dublin zoo and there is a big soft play 5 mins away. We didn’t have any complaints, thanks for a great break!

Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

Just 25 minutes from Dublin, this luxury resort on 1,100 private acres of sweeping parkland, ancient woodlands, lakes and the meandering River Rye create the perfect backdrop for an awe-inspiring country mansion. Once the ancestral home of the Earls of Kildare and the Dukes of Leinster, this walled estate is located just 25 minutes from Dublin. Steeped in the romance of times past, explore stories and history around every corner. A wealth of resort activities await you from cycle or walking trails to tennis, falconry and fishing. Carton House has 169 bedrooms, 18 of which are in The House, our 18th century Palladian style mansion. Indulge at 3 completely unique eateries - Kathleen's Kitchen, The Morrison Room or The Carriage House; escape to Carton House Spa & Wellness featuring an 18 metre swimming pool, Jacuzzi and gymnasium. Our 2 championship eighteen-hole golf courses were designed by Colin Montgomerie and Mark O’Meara. Play the classic parkland O’Meara or take on the more challenging links-style Montgomerie. Carton House is luxury resort escapism at its best. Explore it, experience it.

Disappointing. Has lost its easy Irish warmth & charm yet certainly nowhere near close to Fairmont standards.

Disappointing. Has lost its effortless Irish charm yet Isn’t even close to being the high standard we have come to expect from a Fairmont. Having stayed at Carton before it was taken over we were lucky enough to experience the warm, effortless Irish hospitality as it used to be. Unfortunately, with the makeover & rebranding it has lost all of that warmth & Irish charm only to be replaced by a cold, sterile look (Bring back the cow paintings!!) . Staff still mostly endeavour to do their utmost but with all the new Fairmont rules (most of which seem to be a tick box exercise) the place is very stiff & unwelcoming, especially as a family with a child. Children are not allowed in the pool at all between 11am-3pm, so we only managed to go once in 4 days due to these restrictions & a busy wedding schedule, yet when we did finally get in, the children’s pool, steam room & jacuzzi were all out of use. Hardly the experience you’d expect from a 5 star wannabe resort hotel. Also such a shame to have turned a once beautiful restaurant into a totally uninspiring box of a conference & event facility, so much more could have been done here. The breakfast was mostly good although generally not as good as it used to be. The food & staff at the Carriage house were excellent & the grounds as perfectly manicured as always. The rooms are fairly small & basic but nice enough (if you get one the air con works in) the bed is really comfortable but there’s no wow factor here, especially given the price they charge. I think it would do Carton well to stop trying so hard & relax a bit. It feels like they are attempting to compete with the likes of Ashford Castle which unfortunately, they can’t. We certainly won’t be staying here as a family again anytime soon.

Only one word WILD.

Reviewed By 225lukex

Terrible place, naked walls like concrete prison. The most uncomfortable bed you can sleep. No hot water for 3 days. Windows can be open only couple inches. No ventilation no air conditioning. Head on the bed about 150mm of the wall coz bed is out and can be pushed. Shower like water jet straight on your face, and water everywhere coz it's nothing to stop the water coming out the bath. WILD TO wash your clothes 7€ for one wash + your own powder. Nearly 900€ a month! Standard less in hostel. Highly not recommended!
