Time for an update (stayed here 1st time few years ago and still a good deal for the price) Friendly host which showed up shortly after i arrived (couldn't tell exact time because walked Route de los Volcanos) and uncomplicated Check-In. Best view and if needed, kitchen downstairs (follow the rules as nobody wants to have ants in the room, supermarket around the corner) Slept well, thanks again

For adults (+16) only: The Esencia de la Palma by Princess is your sanctuary of calm in La Palma. On a cliff overlooking the ocean the detached premium-area of the La Palma & Teneguia Princess Vital & Fitness, features refurbished rooms, 4 outdoor pools, sauna, turkish bath and a private buffet-style restaurant providing pool views.
I have been a regular visitor to the La Palma Princess over the last 11 years or so and had really enjoyed it but had an enforced break due to Covid and then the Volcanic eruption. I booked a room in the recently upgraded Adults Only (Esencia) section to see if the upgraded facilities made it worthwhile. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. The rooms in the Esencia Adults Only area have their bedrooms upgraded with new Furniture and Décor. The bathrooms remain the same as the standard rooms but these didn’t really need upgrading as they were already very nice with a large shower, separate bath and lots of room. These rooms also have the welcome addition of included room safe in the rate and tea and coffee making facilities. I also found all staff friendly and efficient. Our room was cleaned to a high standard daily. However this is really where the good news ended. The restaurant in the Esencia section is comfortable and fresh in a new building but whilst I was there it suffered from an infestation of flies that were crawling all over the uncovered food. The room also felt quite cold in the morning for breakfast as the staff insisted on leaving all the doors open (Sun doesn’t really warm things up here till about 10:30 at this time of year). This put me right off and after 2 days I abandoned this area of the hotel (seemed to effect just the southern end of the resort where the adults only section is) and I instead eat in the Esencia section in the main “Food Market” restaurant in the main hotel. This was fine but I noticed both choice and some quality reductions since my previous visits. Examples are Croissants for breakfast actually seem to be Croissant shaped bread rolls and Fruit juices from the machines are cheap and sugary. Dessert selection is greatly reduced from previous visits. There is no separate evening bar / entertainment area for Adults Only guests so you don’t get the true adults only experience. In the main bar they have installed self service machines for House Wine, Draft beer, Mixers/Fizzy drinks and pre-prepared Cocktails. This is good in theory but not so in practice. This means if you order a spirit with a mixer the bar tender pours the spirit and adds ice but then you need then to go to the self service machines to add your mixer. So at busy times you have to queue twice to get 1 drink. It you want a “Large” beer, much loved by British and German guests, you need to queue at the bar to get your large glass then go and fill it with the self service machine. The pre-prepared Cocktails in the self service machines are awful, I never saw anyone go back for a second helping (Though to be fair they were not much better pre self service machine days). The bar in the disco is not currently open due to reduced numbers of guests but the lack of light from the bar makes this room very dark. Also the entertainment quality is greatly reduced from previously, on some nights it was just Bingo. The La Tasca Cordon Bleu restaurant is not currently open and the La Vita Italian is only open on Wednesdays. The Wi-Fi at the hotel was never great and even with the addition of Esencia its no different (nowhere near enough capacity to cope with peak hours). The hotel suggests you purchase their “20 Euros a week premium product to overcome this problem (They are having a laugh!). However, at its heart this is a lovely hotel with comfortable rooms with magnificent tropical grounds in a lovely (if isolated) setting. I’m sure they will overcome the insect infestation soon and if they draw back on some of the cut backs necessary to get over the double wammy of pandemic and volcanic eruption they will find their way again. Not sure the Adults Only offering works in its current form though but time will tell over this.

My wife & I spent a week here in January. We hired a car from the airport, it's about a one hour drive to here. On arrival we phoned Simon & he came in less than 5 minutes, showed us to our apartment. (We had already paid in full.) Everything was fine. Apartment was cleaned a few times and sheets were changed after a few days. There are several apartments here. Ours was up a few steps. There was no light. An outside light would be good above the steps, one of those automatic ones that respond to movement would be ideal. Self catering. Not a hotel. (Not sure how to select this option on trip advisor). There's an outdoor pool but we didn't use it. Free wi-fi was available but the quality was usually quite poor. Sometimes we couldn't even send an email. Occasionally it was ok. Maybe lots of other guests were using it at the same time. We managed a Skype call one evening, but other times couldn't even get online. An electric kettle would be useful and also more economical on electricity for the landlord (especially for those of us who drink tea!) but the kitchen was adequate. We just boiled water in a pan for tea.

Loved our stay at Finca Colon. Very quiet, beautiful sunsets and surroundings. The village is quite stretched out so a car is definitely to be recommended when staying here. The interior is a bit dated but everything was very clean.

Beautiful house, well furnished, relaxing view on ocean, but there was always too much wind to stay outside. There is no security box so do not leave anything in the house. The thieves forced a door and stole.
