Visited today and the food was amazing but the nicest thing was the service. Katharine F was brilliant and made our visit perfect! The portions are huge though so come prepared to be stuffed afterwards.

Once a fine Regency residence, the hotel is situated in the beautiful market town of Faringdon, close to Oxford, Shrivenham and Swindon. Surrounded by nine acres of landscaped gardens,Sudbury House can offer a quiet break away from it all, yet still being close to local businesses and towns, including RAF Brize Norton, Cranfield University and the Defence Academy.Close to the main Swindon to Oxford Road, the A420, the hotel is within easy access of the M4 and M40. Refurbished and redecorated completely in 2015, the Sudbury House is a great base for the Oxfordshire and Wiltshire counties.
A fabulous hotel set in the most beautiful surroundings. The check in n arrival was swift and easy to do, with plenty of information available for visitors. Green, the manager was fabulously accommodating to the requests from me and my colleagues, given the late shifts that we had to work, she arranged to have a light breakfast available slightly later to allow us to get adequate rest. Totally brilliant! The night porter Colin had to let us back in most evenings (well early mornings!) and was always happy to serve us a late night drink. Much appreciated after another late shift. The room was spotless, with a huge, comfy bed, good sized TV, great shower over bath and complimentary tea, coffee, water and snacks. I really appreciated the black out blinds, allowing a completely dark room even though the sun was shining. The housekeeping staff were cheery and happy to help with any issues, making the whole experience nice and relaxing. Due to the timings, I was not able to eat dinner here, but colleagues assured me it was delicious and great value. However I was able to enjoy the breakfast, absolutely delicious with lots of selection, friendly staff and a swift service, all in a restaurant that looked out to the Patio and beautiful gardens beyond. For those not eating dinner at the hotel it’s 5 min walk to Faringdon where there is a great selection of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Overall this is the second time I have stayed here, and both times I have had a lovely, relaxing stay. I will be requesting this hotel for every future visit to the UK! Thank you Green and the team :)

My car needed attention, Danial, behind the desk, realised our room was the furthest from the exit, and because I had to go back and for, waiting for the AA, and being over 80, with stiff legs, he changed our room to near the exit. Very thoughtful and much appreciated.

An imposing and historic 16th century coaching inn arranged around a cobbled courtyard and in the heart of the pretty town of Faringdon. We have a traditional and rustic bar at the front of the property with open fire, flagstone floors and real ales. Our quirkiness extends to several snug areas which are bookable as dining or drinks spaces. Our bedrooms are all ensuite and suit every type of traveller. Our menu focuses on the British classics and we operate a carvery every Sunday lunchtime
The hotel has been taken over and restored to its former glory by the new owners. They’ve stripped all the old and replaced with the new. New paint, new furniture, new menu, new rooms, new everything. It’s a historic building brought into 2022 with amazing taste. The new dining room was an amazing place for a Sunday roast. The dinner menu looks fantastic and we can’t wait to come back!

The Trout at Tadpole Bridge is a traditional country Inn on the banks of the River Thames, an idyllic and peaceful setting with close links to Oxford and the Cotswolds. Each of the six bedrooms has been individually designed and all have high quality linen, en suite bathrooms, handmade Bramley toiletries, flat screen televisions, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities. We have an excellent reputation for our food and we have recently gained 1 Rosette and a breakfast award from the AA.
We had reserved accommodation and an evening meal at this place. When we arrived it looks seriously impressive, a great country/river pub feel. We were quickly shown to our room and dropped our bags before heading into the bar for a drink. As we ordered the drinks, we double checked we had a table booked for dinner, yes came the response 630-7 pm your table will be ready. We retired to the room for a shower and change, heading back to the bar at 6pm. We asked for a certain drink, which didn’t seem an issue at first, then it was ‘oh we do have that but I cant find it, my manager has disappeared and I don’t know where it is”. We ordered something else and stood at the bar chatting, 7pm came and went and we asked when we would be seated “we do not have a table for you yet unless you want eat in the tipi in the open air”, came the response. We politely pointed out we had reserved a table and the same lady had told us we would be seated at 630-7, no apology, just a “I Know’ and then proceeded to whisper something to her colleague and both just rolled their eyes at us. What we observed over the next few hours was customers seemed to be a just people that got in the way for these two ladies, it would be easier if we all paid but didn’t turn up. The wifi password was up on a chalkboard in the main bar, when back in the room tried looking in but got incorrect password. I rang the pub to ask for the password and was told the same one. The wifi could not be connected to! The room looked comfortable but on closer inspection I found there was no info in the room about breakfast times, no greeting pack, the kettle didn’t work and there was no milk. Chips in the tiles, wires hanging down from the tv, a tv remote with all the labels rubbed off the buttons so it was pot luck if it worked let alone changed channels, stains up the wall. We were up and ready for breakfast at 8, but everything’s was deserted! At 840 we actually spoke to someone who told us breakfast only started at 9! Why didn’t any one tell us this when we checked in, as we left the restaurant or have a sign in the room. The lady serving breakfast that we hadn’t seen before was extremely pleasant, even a breath of fresh air. The breakfast was ok, but thats it ok and bits were missing from it.

We had a one night stay with dinner recently and what a surprise it was! The Eagle Tavern is a charming little place but blink and you could miss it . We were greeted by Marek, a really helpful and accommodating young man. He showed us to our room which was fine if just a wee bit basic but in fairness the bed was very comfortable and the shower was fine. We thought hat maybe it needed a feminine touch to the room as there was just ‘something’ missing, well there was no wardrobe so that was missing but that isn’t what I mean. However, overall, no complaints. The biggest surprise came with the evening meal, it was fabulous. My husband had haunch of venison and I had the lamb rump and oh my goodness, what a treat! It was so unexpected to find this quality of food in a small, tucked away tavern in a remote village. The rest of the meal was equally good ( tomato soup and cheesecake for one of us) and then in the morning I had the best poached eggs for breakfast I have ever had. They were just perfect. So thank you Marek and crew, if we were local we would certainly be back.

Waitress was so helpful. There was nothing on the menu I wanted, so she asked the chef if he could do a salad and fish for me which they did. It was delicious. I would definitely recommend this pub. Homey and friendly. Good food and lovely staff.

3 Double Rooms with private bath or shower.
Good grub fairly priced. A decent pub in the town centre. Plenty of garden space for kids in the summer. Fairly priced pint. Friendly staff, clean modern interior. Ideal for a pint lots of friendly locals. Shame not to see the jolly bar man from last year. But the staff are still great.
