You stay in small wooden huts that all face the sea and are well spaced out. Newly installed this year is hot water on tap! Electricity is only on during the evening which means you have to plan your phone charging. The internet is even more limited being only on in the bar from six for three hours, it is very slow and difficult to get on to. Possibly it would be better to have none than cause such frustration trying to get anything. The bar and restaurant are fairly new and are very attractive. The rooms are basic in an adventurous sort of way, concrete floor, wooden shuttered windows etc but the shower is good, they have all the character you want from a get away from it beach resort. The trip over is interesting by speed boat which you reach by zebu cart. The food is average with a set meal in the evening naturally being fish based. However the imported South African wine was much more expensive than we had paid elsewhere and they did not tell us how much it was before we ordered it (70,000 as opposed to 40,000). No local wine available.

If you don't mind a very basic accommodation and just look for a 100% dip into a marine experience, that's your spot. Very friendly owners, living and well integrated there since decades, you will find a very easygoing and relaxed ambiance. Nobody will push you to buy activcities, but if you just ask Eric to take you diving with him, snorkelling or whale watching (and even swimming with these wonderful giants!) you will discover his love to this place. Very good restaurant, plenty of dish choices every day. Wifi available 3h per day, the essential not to cut off completely from your "real life". Only reason for not giving 5 stars, toilets are maybe too basic. As Anakao doesn't have clean running water - it's taken by pirogues every day from a near village - they provide you plenty of water in buckets . In short, you don't have sinks or taps, so you will take your shower and wash your hands by using buckets. I think they could find a bit more comfortable way to let their guests wash themselves, but, nonetheless, I would definitely come back. Thank you Carole and Eric!

Anakao Ocean Lodge & Spa is a magical place that by strange and fortunate circumstances has remained an uncontaminated corner away from the more chaotic mass tourism routes. It is a new and exclusive destination especially suitable for those who have a spirit for travelling.
Wonderful view, Nice beach, amazing activities. Very satisfied of the quality of services, very flavorsome and diversified dishes. Discovering the surrounding villages, parks and islands. The best vacation I ever had, just WONDERFUL!

hotel with bungalows of white stone to two plans equipped with bathroom and private shower, terrace, sofa, comfortable and luxury suites. The restaurant proposes malagasy Italian cuisine. Free wifi.
Hotel managed by Italian guys located on the wonderful beach of the fishermen village of Anakao. Dario and Valerio have created an Oasi with all che comfort that you need to have, in a country where sometimes is difficult found hotel with electricity and warm water. Resturant menu change every days depending on what fisherman get. Owners can arrange tours as whale watching. Wifi is present in the common area(bar/resturant and Beach). Electricity and hot water all the day.

An absolutely stunning location...On the South West coast of Madagascar lies a small fishing village called Anakao...our bungalows and dive centre sit on the soft white sands of a protected lagoon.
We had a fantastic time here and the owner and his staff left us wanting for nothing. They pandered to our every whim and we felt like royalty! The food was excellent (often freshly caught fish) and they arranged lots of trips and activities for us. The rooms were really beautifully decorated and furnished. Well worth a visit away from the busy capital.

The location is excellent. Very quiet and calm. The chef is really good and the food was great. The issue is that they are not very organised. They don’t speak english at all. Only the manager speak few words of English. It was impossible to communicate with the rest of the staff. We couldn’t even get a ‘salad fruit’ in the afternoon as a snack, because the only person at the reception didn’t speak any english or french at all, we had to go to the next hotel to get something to eat. The door of our bungalow was broken and no one has been able to fix it. So we slept with the door unlocked for 2 nights. One evening, we were the only guests in the hotel, and just after dinner at 8pm the chef and the waiter turned the light off and they left, leaving us still sitting at the table. One afternoon the only person at the reception was sleeping on the sofa and we had to wake him up in order to get something to drink. Location and food are ok, but very poor managed place.

Mada Surf Lodge is ideally located around 200m to the north of the main Anakao fishing village and right in front of Nosy Ve Island. The hotel hosts a chill out lounge bar and restaurant with breathtaking views over the Anakao lagoon. The restaurant proposes fresh seafood straight off the boat daily and a sumptuous selection of Hamburgers and Pizzas.Best value for money hotel in Anakao guaranteed!
Having done my 3rd trip to Mada Surf Lodge it just gets better. The owners of the lodge Blair & Ben are great hosts with years of local knowledge of this area and its surrounds. The bungalows are comfortable and cleaned daily on your request. The staff are friendly and give off a good vibe. If you cant speak Malagache or French its no problem they will eventually work out your enquiry with a warm smile. Clinets must remember its not a 5 Star Resort but comfortable clean and a good vibe throughout. Value for your money and great food on offer. Your virtually living on the seashore with the sound of waves lapping the shoreline as you fade into a deep realaxing sleep. Sunsets are amazing best I've seen anywhere in the Indian Ocean. And for any surfers going there you will enjoy the experience of some hot waves. Always remember you are not the only Guests there have patience respect the staff and dont miss the Happy Hour from 1700hrs until 1800hr smash a Cocktail or a Local Beer on sunset.
