Culture and scenery collide in Gran Canaria’s cosmopolitan capital, where baroque Spanish plazas and lively pedestrian malls are flanked by miles of urban beaches on two sides. Cruise ships, yachts, sunbathers, and surfers all congregate in the sheltered bays against a backdrop of colorful resorts.

I was there at the best time when both the guests and the volunteers were special people. What is also important is that the low tide was in the afternoons and it was 23-26 C for a few days, which made the winter holid

Located in the barrio of Pino Apolinario, this hostel is only 10 minutes away with car of bus from the old city centre of Triana and Vegueta in Las Palmas. The hostel is situated in a old colonial style house, who has been completely renovated and adapted to the needs of the backpacker of the 21st century. This without losing the authenticity of the house.
From the moment we enquired at booking the hostel for our large group we had great service, and this continued as we planned our trip and then visited for 5 nights in May 22. Firstly the hostel is beautiful, homely, comfortable, clean and better than any hostel I have seen before. It is a bus ride away from the city with its sanding beaches of Las Canteras, restaurants and shops but also accessible to the mountains, volcano and other interesting places. What made this place extra special were its hosts, Fernando, Andres and Korneel. They were welcoming, approachable and helpful, just fantastic! This was a work trip, however as individuals we are all excited about returning to the hostel with our families and friends in the future. Thank you for an amazing stay.

Since I would be visiting during Carnaval, I knew getting a reasonably priced room might be a challenge, and the Alcaravaneras had a good rate, in addition to being walking distance to Santa Catalina Park, where a lot of the Carnaval events were being held. Davinia, the receptionist, was proactive in contacting me to find out when I would be checking in. You are given a set of keys since there is no 24 hour reception, and you can come and go as you please. They have a kitchen on the 4th floor that guests can use with a refrigerator and microwave. The biggest issues with the Alcaravaneras was the smell and the noise. I had one of the rooms with a private bath which, in principle, wos good. However, there was a strong bad odor (probably sewer gas) from the bathroom. In addition, the location of the hotel rooms is on a side street that is right off the main highway in Las Palmas. The highway noise came right through the windows, whether they were closed or open. When I complained about these issues, the hostal provided me with a floor fan that helped with the smell a little, and provided white noise at night to cover some of the highway noise. Wifi was also spotty. The hostal also let me store my suitcase for a few hours after checkout and before my flight departure.

Your quiet home straight on the most beautiful beach, surrounded by the best restaurants, bars and shops of the city. Ideal for tourists and digital nomads, strong and reliable Wi-Fi connection provided 24h and a fully equipped kitchen. Stunning sea-view from some of the rooms, without mentioning the amazing rooftop. Some of the rooms have ensuite bathroom, some other shared and the room "La Palma" has even a large private terrace! The ambient is very open, young and cozy: check it out! 200 squared meters of colours, shades and tranquillity, divided in 3 floors and a panoramic rooftop from where you can admire the most spectacular sunsets that Gran Canaria can offer!
The staff was incredibly friendly. From the moment I arrived at the hostel and checked in, I felt just like coming home. The atmosphere is so familiar and welcoming, I wish I could have stayed more days. The roof terrace is super comfy and being able to see the sea from there is just beautiful. The common area and the kitchen were also really nice and clean and the dinners we had together with other guests and the staff were delicious. I immediately made new friends, people from the staff invited me to their activities at the beach and after being there for two days I felt like I know most of them for a long time. The bedroom and the bed were comfortable and it was always quiet during the night, which helped me to get a good rest. The hostel is located right next to the beach which is another thing that I really liked. The surrounding area is calm but there are a lot of restaurants, cafes and supermarkets within a few minutes of walking distance. The stay in the hostel really made my time in Las Palmas something very special. All in all, it is a great value for money and if I'm coming back to Gran Canaria I will definitely go back to Tamaran.

Rooftop terrace is fab you can sit and chill out with some great people I was made to feel very welcome by Johnny and his guests which was good as I was on my own. This is situated literally 5 minutes from the square with bars shops and the cathedral all lovely.... I had a ball going back later in the year if it's not fully booked.

After staying in various hostels and apartments in LP, I'm confident to say that Cactus in one of the best choices. The rooms are super clean, very cozy and the interior is beautiful. Moreover, the staff is super friendly and helpful. In my case (I stayed there two times) they remembered I needed a desk to work and let me choose my room of choice. They also helped me find a place for a corona test, for example. The communication with the staff is very easy via whatsapp. The rooftop terrace offers much space to hang out or work. What's also great is that washing is free! The only downside I can think of is that the walls are quite thin and it can get noisy at times. But in total, a recommendation :)

Located in the center of the city and 3 minutes away from Las Canteras beach, you'll enjoy our terrace to share experiences with other travelers or to enjoy the maximum comfort of a Hotel. The Kasa Hostal is placed in a marvelous place in the city; near the shops, pubs, restaurants, and close to the nightlife. The Bus station of Las Palmas it's nearby; 200 meters. It offers a regular service and practically to every place on the island. The Double or twin rooms have a balcony, bathroom with shower, flat-screen TV with cable channels, air conditioning, mini-refrigerator, and much more. The Kasa Hostal has Free WiFi.
I was put off by some of the reviews, but we wanted to stay cheaply this time and it was only for two nights. We started off with a couple of glitches, I have to say. When I enquired about the hotel shuttle, I was told to use the bus! Not as advertised! Then when we got to reception they seemed to have no knowledge of our booking. Still, they found us a room and although it smelt a bit odd (a feature of Las Palmas, I'm afraid to say), it was an uncrowded room with a little balcony over a pedestrianised side street. There was ample space for our effects, a big desk with chair, a couple of sockets, a safe, and a powerful fan high up on the wall. The fridge wasn't tiny and had a freezer compartment. The beds were rather cheap affairs but we both slept well. The bathroom was a reasonable size, with good towels and some "products". The shower let the place down badly though. It was definitely missing a part as water came out horizontally! That needs to be seen to! We had a couple of plastic coffee mugs on a tray in the room. No kettle, although I was told one could be made available. However, it wasn't needed as there turned out to be an entire kitchen at our disposal on the roof! It was a lovely area, with a good if somewhat eclectic range of cooking and serving items, a couple of hobs, filter coffee machine, microwave, sink... No kettle but saucepans can boil water. There was also a vending machine for cold drinks and snacks up there (and a hot drinks one on the landing), a covered area with big dining table and a couple of other tables and chairs on the "grass". I was pleased to see how clean and undamaged everything was. Everyone I saw -- mainly young people -- was treating the place with respect, maybe helped by the ever-present cameras. On the accommodation floor, there was comfy seating and a table for guests' use, and a computer station too. Everything everywhere was spotless and cared for and security was high, with the room card needed at every step, including to work the lift. Note: We had a peek into the single rooms without window which are slammed in reviews. You get a skylight for daylight plus an opening window above the door to let air circulate from the corridor. There's ample room to move around, IMO, with a bed, wardrobe, shower and basin. I've seen vastly worse! Of course, you can choose to pay more and have a window. The kitchen means you can save on food, 'tho eating cheaply in the area is very simple (I recommend tapas bar Euro K-Narias La Parada just a block away). As we live on neighbouring Fuerteventura, we will be back! This is no longer a "cheap" option for us; it's our preferred one (vastly nicer than the AC tower across the square).
