According to the song by Dieter Wiesmann Schaffhausen is just a small town. But what a town! Between Munot, Rhine Falls, Randen and Klettgau lies a medieval little place with an irresistible attraction. And, ten minutes away, a youth hostel in a small castle. At one time the meeting point for writers and painters, today it is open to all connoisseurs of the art of living.
We stayed there for one night and we were not satisfied about our stay.We arrived at around 8.00 pm and had some difficulty in finding the place as it was hidden among the trees. The door was closed and we had to wait for some time until we got the attention of someone at the reception. The room provided was very small and we could hardly move. There was no washroom for our floor and we had to go upstairs for that. Wifi signal was very weak in the room.Breakfast was not that good either. The only things that I liked about this hostel is its closeness to the Rhine falls and the friendly attitude of the guy at the reception.Though it looked kind of ghostly at night the building itself is beautiful.

It is really a compact friendly backpacker with no nonsense no frills rooms. I was quite late in the night during check-in but the owner was very friendly and accommodative. I would recommend this place more than others in Schaffhausen.

A jewel on the banks of the Rhine. The route from the station to the youth hostel offers an initial view of the Rhine, flowing out of the Lake of Constance at Stein, as well as of the loveliest Old Town in Switzerland, the Mediterranean-style lake promenade, the extensive bathing resort on the river bank and, finally, the lush gardens of the youth hostel. 50 Years after the opening the Stein am Rhein Youth Hostel has been renovated. Thanks to the skilful integration of the necessary conversions, the youth hostel is not only being made more accessible for people with disabilities, it is also becoming more attractive for all guests.
Travelling with my two pre-teen kids whilst cycling on Bodensee. We were kindly given our own room as we had young kids. Accommodation is pretty much the last building within the town limits, but close to a swimming area on the Rhine. Provisions fairly standard and acceptable. Our room was on the main corridor so there was the usual noise you would expect. The staff were pleasant. The only negative thing was that the windows had been left open all day, so by bedtime the rooms were, we discovered, full of midges and Mosquitos. One daughter had 67 bites on her, and I received quite a few.

We stayed 2 nights at ZAK Hotel and met the owner & some of her friends. We had a great time and even went out for a real Swiss Fondue. WOW. Perfect location to the see the Rheinfall, to do some shopping and exploring the wineries in the country-side. Staff will give you advise and organize anything you need. Train station nearby. Too bad, we only had a couple of days, to visit friends during a quick stopover in Zuerich. We will be back!

The Bolderhof farm is an organic producing and touristic farm. You can sleep here surrounded from the beautiful nature, you can spend time with our animals or play with all the toys on the farm. We offer different activities like the famous cow trekking or for groups team playing games, guided farm tours, guided cheese making and lots more. It is possible to eat on the farm in our restaurant - we only use organic products from our region. Please order meals before you're here, because our restaurant is not open for public, only for our guests. We are an active producing farm. Tractors are driving around, cows live here and people are working. Please note, all of it makes noise and our working days are long. Even you should know, that you of course can smell the animals. We're looking forward to welcome you for a daytrip or an overnight stay.

Definitely attracts a very strange crowd of people. The room seemed kinda dirty and its very noisy from the bar downstairs which wasnt that big of a deal, but I wouldnt recommend it if you really need to sleep. There is no smoking sign but everyone smokes everywhere in the building. Location is great!

Good location right next to the train station. A bar is available, clean but a bit "grubby". The room was very stale, quite noisy in the hallway all night and clearly overpriced. The staff barely speaks English and was quite unfriendly. in my opinion. I was not sure whether I was in Switzerland or Romania. Maybe OK to drink a few beers but not recommended as a hotel / motel. As a tip for the owners; a dress code would leave a more professional impression, blue jeans, old shoes and washed out tshirts are not appealing at all...
