A really nice hotel. Our room was a good size, spotlessly clean, a/c, good WiFi, fridge, tea and coffee and a hot shower. Plus a balcony overlooking the river flowing into the Caribbean. Breakfast was a good choice, ours being eggs, toast, tea or coffee, juice and a large plate of fruit. Safe car parking was only 150 metres away and assistance with our luggage was provided. Portobello was a pleasant town for a stop over. Decent old Spanish forts, a very pleasant old church, small supermarket and meals available at the hotel.

First this is not a resort - It is a set of 3 condos located on the beach south of Portobello - it is in Maria Chiquita. The restaurant is closed and most of the condos are vacated. Building 2 looks like it is falling apart. I was in building 1 and it was ok. The place is kept clean and well manicured but it is not a resort. There is nothing to do and while there the Portuguese man-o-wars littered the water and the beach so my plan to relax on the beach for 2 days did not come to fruition. What I don't understand is why the builders didn't pave the road through the town It would have been the decent thing to do. I would have rated it a 2.5 if I could because I wanted peace and tranquility so I didn't mind the desolation. Views were great Security was very much appreciated

Sister Moon is an Eco Lodge situated on the Atlantic (Caribbean) side of Panama, at the end of Isla Grande in front of a reef where you will find charming cabins dispersed along the hill. Sleeping in a natural fresh air environment where you can hear the waves breaking as you fall asleep is a unique experience. To go back in time for a short period to a place that has no clocks or schedules, where there is no hurry or need for communication, to rest and relax in the inviting pool and enjoy a dish of island cooking prepared especially for you with more than just seasoning, we add a bit of Panamanian hospitality along with it. We want that your stay in Sister Moon recharges you with positive energy and gives you a break from the hectic day to day life surrounded by nature in an informal island setting. This picturesque Eco Lodge has eleven small rustic cabins: six rooms with a double bed; two rooms with two double beds; and one room with a double bed and a single bed. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and hammock with a balcony. We also have two separate general rooms; one for ladies and one for men, for the backpackers, surfers, or groups larger than five guests who would like to visit that have eight beds in each room. We also have a small open air restaurant, a bar and a pool table for your enjoyment. We are a pet friendly hotel but do ask a nominal per day fee to have your favorite pet roam around the property. Since this is a small Eco Lodge we would request that when you decide to visit us, you should secure your reservation by making an advanced payment in full.
The villa was not in good condition, lock did not work properly, broken lights, tight smelly bathroom, tore bedsheets, poor service, inattentive staff. The place is way too far from the good beach. Room is not worth the asking price. I would not recommend anyone to stay in this place. There are better cheaper options. Sister Moon sucks big time.

This little visited area on the Caribbean coast east of Colon is very interesting historically. It is a UN Historical Cultural site with a National Park boundary surrounding the tiny townsite. Much of it is badly run down, including the old customs house building and the two fort ruins on the townsite. This is somewhat of a "roughing it" experience off the beaten path . The weather was typical of the Caribbean side of Panama , with wind and some rain even in the dry season. We stayed in a separate old building with a 2nd floor small apartment like set up. Minimal, but clean and with a hammock on the outer side walkway, and small kitchen. The view over the close by bay was lovely.

The Ofiuras Hostel is on the road beetween Colon and Portobelo, approx. 2 km before Portobelo on the left hand side. It is situated right on the seaside and offers new rooms with different standards. I had a double room with fan and ensuite bathroom and a porch which was lovely and unbeatable value. The host Cynthia speaks some English and tries to make your stay as comfortable as possible, in some way this place got sort of a homestay feeling as the kids are running around and playing. There are restaurants nearby, Captain Jacks is 50m away, breakfast can be ordered. A scuba place is also within walking distance. The buses stop right in front, so it's no problem going into town. I loved that it was right on the sea, you could jump into the water in the morning.
