Pleasant but little value for money

Khem villas has a fantastic location as far as access to the Ranthambore national park goes. The natural setting in which the property is, is very scenic too. The reservation process was seamless and the property manager was accomodating about changes to our holiday plans, which was very much appreciated. The meals provided were homely and it was nice to see a fully vegetarian establishment, although maybe having a mix of cuisines rather than mostly Indian vegetarian would be a good idea. Now comes the rest of our stay, we had booked the family room which was Rs 40,000 a night and when we got to the room, it was extremely disappointing. It was uninviting, the sitting area felt like a waiting area in a doctors clinic with just four chairs and a desk, the bedrooms were roomy but felt more like an average bed and breakfast rather than a luxury establishment. We then shifted to the luxury tents, however they were fairly basic, no luxury whatsoever. At Rs 50,000 a night for two tents I can’t say I felt we got our moneys worth. The property’s wifi connection was appalling. Yes we would all love the luxury of cutting off from the world and enjoying the jungle but unfortunately life today demands being connected with the rest of the world and the hotels wifi connection did not allow for that whatsoever. The plunge pool was a bit of a nothing pool, given the size of the property I am surprised as to why there isn’t a proper pool given there are so many staff to run the show. The two people who made this difference to our stay at this property were Mahindra and Dinesh, they made us feel welcomed and looked after. Thank you to both of you for your hospitality. In short, what the property charges versus what it offers is totally out of sync. There is definitely potential but as it currently stands I would not be recommending it.

Sujan Sher Bagh

Ranthambhore is the world’s finest place to observe tigers in the wild, and SUJÁN Sher Bagh is the ideal base from which to explore this billion-year-old forest, with the mighty citadel that lends its name to the reserve rising majestically at the heart of it. With ruins of palaces, cenotaphs and follies dotted around the jungle, now inhabited by its wild denizens, with the tiger at the apex, it is a spectacular wildlife haven. Sher Bagh, evokes nostalgic sensibilities of life on safari during the heydays of an era celebrated for its art de vivre, living elegantly under canvas, whilst on safari. With crackling campfires under starlit skies, sumptuous Anglo-Indian repasts using homegrown organic produce, coupled with old-world service, the camp epitomises life on safari as it ought to be lived. Crackling campfires under star lit skies, naturalists to share the facts of the forest, it’s a place where comfort, style and an unmatchable commitment to conservation meet. With over 40 years experience, Sher Bagh’s guides and trackers are the best in the business. Their incredible knowledge of the park and the behaviour of its star inhabitant, the tiger, together with their passionate enthusiasm, make a stay here unparalleled.

Ecotourism at its best!

Reviewed By RHDugger

We were just back from an early morning game drive and very excited. My wife and I and our travel friends have been on game drives at the best places in Africa and elsewhere, but what we had just seen was sublime. An hour earlier, our remarkable Sher Bagh guide, Farooq Kahn, positioned us perfectly to watch (and video) a mother Bengal tiger and her three full grown offspring walk slowly down to a stream-fed pond at the foot of a rocky cliff and slip into the water to cool-off. What made the mother and her offspring so remarkable? Two things. Seeing four grown tigers together is extremely rare. And, watching a mother bite her offspring when they approached cub-like for affection, was the kind of animal interaction that seasoned-safari goers prize. It was tough love in a tough place. In just a few months, each will have ferociously fight other tigers to win and keep territory in which to hunt and have offspring of their own. This is what their mother was teaching. During our stay at Sher Bagh we saw eight individual tigers in more than 20 separate viewings. Sher Bagh is a small jewel-like property with staff, accommodations, and hospitality as good as any ecotourism destination in the world. Farooq is as good as any guide I've ever had, and I can't compliment enough Divya and Divyashu for how they so thoughtfully made us feel at home, Jethu, for how carefully our tent accommodations were cared for, Chef Kunal for delicious meals and personally making sure everything satisfied our tastes and met our dietary requirements, and the marvelous massage at Sher Bagh's spa. Something also needs to be said about Sher Bagh's owners. When Covid hit, they didn't shut down or scale back. They supported feeding and caring for the people in surrounding communities and kept their employees and local people busy remodeling and perfecting Sher Bagh. Evidently, it was a lovely place before. Now, it's a perfection. I look forward to visiting again.

The Ranthambhore Bagh

The Ranthambhore Bagh opened in 1998 as a modest 12-room hotel for travelers looking out for an experience in the Ranthambhore National Park. The following year we added luxury tents, with all the facilities that a modern day traveler needs. We have now evolved to a resort which caters to all kind of specialist needs and have become the favorite hangout of filming crews, photographers, naturalists, birders and tourists who desire a richer wildlife experience. If you are the kind who wants to photograph the Indian courser or identify the different individual tigers of Ranthambore then you have reached the right place.

On the hunt for Tigers! - Hotel 3 of our India Tour!

Reviewed By LoopyLou3512

We stayed here for two nights. Check in was not the best, my daughter was fabulous and confident in checking in until this hotel which asking questions which she answered but then they kept on on which point made it all confusing and she hated it and just wanted to leave. We were taken to our tent. I would not describe the tents as luxury, but nice! including a basic shower/toilet/ wash basin! The beds were comfortable. For air conditioning there is a big noisy industrial fan but there is also another smaller quieter fan that you can put on in the evening. We had a little visitor in our tent, a small frog, which was amusing watching my daughter trying to help it get back outside! Service is friendly - especially one member of staff made our stay lovely and a memorable one . And if it wasn’t for him we could not wait to leave! But luckily this member of staff offered us tea and biscuits while waiting for our first afternoon safari and told us the schedule of the afternoon, therefore making us feel far more comfortable and relaxed. We had brunch when we got back from safari and must say it was plentiful and delicious food, especially the honey pancakes . The breakfast, lunch and dinner was all included and apart from the evening buffet on the second day we received private dining. All dishes delivered to our table and informed what each dish was so friendly and always smiling! ( really sorry that I did not get your name but you made our stay a very happy a memorable one - you worked very long hours as always there, evening meal and again at breakfast!) The evening dinner was range of curries, poppadoms, salads and came round offering more chapatis. It was lovely eating out in the candlelit garden. And it was buffet style so could get more, certainly did not go hungry. In the tent. Nighttime was very noisy with traffic throughout night but it didn’t bother us too much, all part of the atmosphere of India with horns always going ?. The tent has a little porch area with two chairs and a tables and it was lovely relaxing there after our shopping trip. There are some nice craft stores nearby The gardens are nice to relax in with swings, we enjoyed tea and biscuits in the garden. The jeep safaris both morning & afternoon were good - on time, & we saw one tiger am safari but it was rather crowded with about 6 other jeeps but we had an excellent tour guide and even let my daughter stand on the jeep bonnet to get a great shot. The drinks are reasonable priced. When we got got from the safaris one member of staff always happy and smily offering us drinks which was wonderful. He certainly made our stay lovely, it was lovely staying in a tent during our tour of India for the the safari trips. Although we went on three safaris and each time a different gate, we only saw one tiger. I don't think October is the best time to go as most of the park is closed so the jeeps only cover a small area of the park and also a lot of time just waiting for time to pass. Our first guide was good and we saw lots of animals, the second was excellent and the guide let my daughter climb onto the bonnet to get a shot but the third guide/ tour was not all good but at least the crowd was great on the jeep.

Disappointed

Reviewed By AKS0817

The property is well spread out and is quite beautiful, but not professionally managed. I had the jungle luxury tent - it rained when I visited as a result it was a bit damp. The heaters placed in the tent helped. However, the switch to the main light was hidden behind a painting, took me 10 mins to figure that out. The bathroom often ran out of water, on asking I was informed the tank supplying water to the tents runs out and has to be frequently pumped. The front desk at check out was a nightmare. There was an fresher, relatively untrained. He had no information about the advance deposit made and it took me 20 mins to complete a simple transaction. The food was largely decent, although on the spicier side. The buffet has a fair selection, mostly Indian stuff. However the highlight and only saving grace was the restaurant manager Mr. OM who went beyond his call of duty to provide us with a la carte items specially for the kids. He ensured that food wise we were satisfied.
