This is what a rainforest should look like. And it was all the more stunning because we didn't plan to see it, didn't know about, and just stumbled into it when we saw the brown sign on the road from Waratah. Entering the gap from the car park into the forest was like going down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. Barring the meter-wide path, it looked like this forest had been untouched since time began. Ancient trees toppled over, decaying, sheltering unseen wildlife and insects, and giving rise to new growth from their rotting roots. Fungi and thick moss disguising rocks and bark. Water coursing through the undergrowth until it tumbles in a two-step falls at the end of the well-maintained trail. The 210 metal steps to the platform are worth the descent/climb. We met a few other explorers but mostly had the trail to ourselves. Perhaps because it was unexpected, I enjoyed more than the walk around Cradle Mountain the day before.

This whole town is picturesque and the waterfall in the middle of town is a real gem. It falls into a lovely tree filled gully. A nice grassy park where you can sit and just look. Really worth a stop. The view back over to the town is just lovely. Found it very peaceful.

This heritage-listed Gothic wooden Anglican Church was officially opened in 1880. It was deconsecrated in 2013, and has powered back to life as a history centre, museum, and art gallery with a retail section. This gallery has become a "Gallery of Stories", featuring regularly changing exhibitions which tells the stories of this once very busy mining town and its people. Open mainly in the Spring & Summer, and by appointment in the winter, the gallery is available for weddings and funerals. Please contact Anne and Tony for further information.
