Best seen in spring. Not yet swelteringly hot and humid. Kids still in school. Flowers all out. Birds about. It's a great half day out. Prepare to do a bit of walking and get there real early or real late to see the best of the birds.

W.H. Stark House

The W.H. Stark House stands much as it did at the turn of the 20th century. With its 14,000 square feet and 15 rooms, the Stark House holds a significant display of original family furnishings, China, silver, rugs, porcelains, glass, artwork, woodwork, and lighting. From the one-of-a-kind sterling silver tea service on the First Floor to the rare Napoleon death mask on the Third Floor, each level of the Stark House offers an extraordinary glimpse at the lifestyle of the prominent timber family who occupied it from 1894-1936.

The details of the home are gorgeous. The mantles, wood trim, wainscoting, staircases etc are beyond amazing. The home is decorated beautifully. They had exquisite taste. Their personal possessions are in the home & add to the ambience. The dining room was decorated for Thanksgiving & just looked beautiful with the furniture & carved chairs. There was a lot they thought of & put in the house for that time period.

This is a wonderful place to stretch your legs and explore the boardwalk into the swamp. There are information markers along the boardwalk which stretches for about 1/4 mile. It's part of the Tony Houseman State Park and Wildlife Management Area. I enjoyed a nice walk. The rest stop is clean with lots of information on Texas.

This is one of the neatest places I've ever seen. This local family has just collected so much STUFF. You can see rooms set up like a 1900s bank, a dentist office, and a school room. They are enough toys to make your head spin, and much much more. GO.

What a fun bar this is! Don't let the outside fool ya, you may miss it driving by. There are some of the nicest, friendliest people in here! I walked in a stranger, and walked out with a whole bunch of new Texan friends! It is a beer only bar, so if you want something stronger, you have to BYOB, but every bar should have it going on like Kings. No fights, everyone getting along, people wanting to get to know you and your story, buying ya beers, lol. Wed they have open mic for local artists, Friday is Karaoke, Saturday is juke night... you can't go wrong! I LOVE this place and if I am ever within decent driving range, I will come back!
