8 Things to do in Jurong Lake That You Shouldn't Miss

December 23, 2021 Phylicia Berquist

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

Chinese and Japanese Gardens

The stunning colors of the plants and rock formations in the Chinese Garden contrast with the thought-provoking Japanese Garden.

Easy to access via the SMRT, these gardens are peaceful relaxing to stroll through. The Chinese side has a beautiful towering pagoda, an abandoned teahouse, and a huge stone boat (like the Empress’s in Beijing). All of these are set around a lovely lake, with manicured lawns, flowers, plants, and trees everywhere. We also saw a large monitor lizard strolling along the shoreline of the adjoining river. Next came a whimsical garden with statues of the animals of the Chinese zodiac and a bonsai garden with a variety of house, bridge, and temple-like structures that formed a lovely enclosed courtyard. It was a wonderful experience.

Fabulous for busy toddlers Tons of fun exhibitions that are interactive and fun. Some areas roped off but lots to do. Great for ages 2-6/7yrs old. Very spacious and great place for kids to run around and have some great learning experiences. Facility was very clean and organised with lots of staff available. The built environment and shopping area was the biggest hit and very interactive. Bring socks for small soft play area. I did both KidsSTOP and science museum in one day. Bit overwhelming for a toddler and would just do KidsSTOP on its own. There is a morning and afternoon session to choose from. Leave strollers just outside entrance gate. Staff very vigilant with hygiene and checking for HFM symptoms. Entry fee for non Singaporean or PR is quite high. I paid for an adult ticket and 2yr old and thought a tad pricey. However, would still visit again in future but wish residents included in pricing!
