The “Itahi” rock monuments, made 600 years ago, were first excavated in 1962 in the Shiotani area of Ichikawa. The Buddha figures stand about 1 meter high and reveal some Sanskrit characters that are still visible. There are 13 Itahi figures during the excavation, but now only 8 remain and have been registered as cultural assets of Hyogo prefecture.
