Fascinating limestone hills and towers lure tourists from China and around the world to this city of 630,000. Popular sights include 120-hectare Seven Star Park, Reed Flute Cave, 200-foot high Fubo Hill and the much-loved Elephant Trunk Hill. Guilin is very popular as a starting point for Li River cruises to Yangshuo and for visits to the nearby minority villages of Yao, Miao and Dong. April, May, September and October are the best months to visit, as they avoid the extremes of heat and rain.

The Cultural Park is near to the town center. The Sun and Moon Pagodas are landmark in the park particularly at night time when lights are on. There are lots of people, local or visitors, clustered around to enjoy the scenery or having their fun in the area. Cruising around the lakes by river boats is another activity there. We just strolled around the lakes both in day time and at night and it was really relaxing. Recommend others to have a walk there when visiting the area.

We viewed the Pagodas on a cruise at night through the lake. The lit up buildings were beautiful at night and I would highly recommend to see these buildings to anyone visiting Guilin

This is a large cave with lots of stalactites and stalagmites. Well designed illumination lights are lid up to provide visitors with clearer views inside this natural cave. The path inside is a bid slippery but visitors can well manage to tour along the pathway and take pictures as well. Entrance fee is a bid expensive but still consider worthwhile.

This place is super commercialized.
First, the space of the souvenir store is super large. It took my family 20 minutes just to walk directly towards the exit.
Second, we ran into something like scam on the summit. The official tour guide led us to a room with a well-dressed man, who said something like fortune-telling to us and gave us a red ribbon. Then we were led to another room with more men in the same dress, who asked us how much we would like to “sponsor” in return of the gift ribbon.
The scenery was just ok, compared with so many other spots throughout Guilin.
Last but not least, this place is around 30 minutes of drive away from Guilin downtown. The cable car roundtrip costs 110 CNY per person.

At a height of 722 feet, this is the tallest hill in Guilin offering some of the best views for viewing and photographing the city.
Diecai Hill is situated where the 4th of the 4 Lakes joins the Li River. It's many steps to climb up but go close to sunset (or sunrise I imagine) for some lovely views of Guilin and the gorgeous surrounding Carst Hills.
There is also a big slide that goes down (not kidding). It's pretty inexpensive and he'll give you gloves and a sack but does close at sunset so you have to choose between taking pretty photos or sliding. We photoed. Half way up (or down) you actually walk a narrow passage through the center of the hill where there are some Buddha and script relics - quite interesting.

Rising more than 213 meters in elevation from the west bank of the Lijiang River, this hill offers superb views from its summit.
This is just part and parcel of the obligatory scenic stops. It can be reached by any conveyance you please. Be sure to learn about the history so as to better understand the local significance.

This is the place to go in the evening when in Guilin. Lots of interesting bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment. Whilst you are there just keep walking around because eventually you will find you way the ancient Nengren temple (we weren't sure where we were going to an old lady who couldn't speak any English came up to us and in an animated manner pointed us in the right direction - so appreciative of her).
The temple itself is stunning, especially lit up at night, but climb to the top and you have the best view over Guilin, with the stunning view to the Elephant Trunk Hill, with the limestone hills all flood lit.
A beautifully restored part of the old town in Guilin, made for an enjoyable evening and a bit of a lucky find.
