Zamek Ksiazat Pomorskich W Darlowie

Muzeum - Zamek Książąt Pomorskich (The Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes in Darłowo )
Darlowo is a small seaside town on the Baltic Coast and what can probably be described as its highlight is the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes. From the tower you can enjoy extensive views over the town and the local countryside. Its original interiors house the museum of Darlowo's history, and it includes many interesting items such as paintings, sculpture, furniture, weapons, objects made from amber, maps and much else. Beautifully restored, the museum gives one insight into those past times.
The Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes is the only Gothic castle located on the coast of the Baltic Sea in Poland. The castle's formation is close to that of a square, with a tower measuring 24 metres in height. The castle's construction began in 1352 and was built during the reign of Bogusław V and Elżbieta - daughter of Casimir III the Great. Although this was only a secondary residence of the House of Pomerania, the castle was enlarged and modernised in the fifteenth and sixteenth century, becoming a worth royal residence. The town of Darłowo was given the title of The Royal City of Darłowo (Królewskie Miasto Darłowo, Polish)
The greatest expansion of the castle was done under the reign of Eric of Pomerania, who rebuilt the castle to that of the design of his previous residence, Kronborg Castle. After a great fire, which devastated the castle in 1624, the last Duke of the House of Pomerania, Bogusław XIV, had rebuilt the castle. However, he did not restore the castle to its original architectural style. The castle had lost many of its defences, and a chapel was built inside the Duke Hall.
For those history buffs, a worthwhile place to visit whilst enjoying the seaside town that is quite dead until holiday season begins.

This lighthouse was built in 1885 as a one-storey, small red brick house with an adjoining tower. In 1927 one floor was added on the top of the lighthouse. Today the tower is 22 meters high. The lighthouse is small, but nice. When walking around in Darlowko it will be hard to miss as it is centrally placed along the mouth of the river.

Stone Gate

Reviewed By high_low73 - Bergen, Norway

This city gate is the last remains of the old city fortification that protected the city with a 1500m long wall. It gives an insight into what the old town walls could look like. Not much else to do here, but as it is close by the market square it's well worth a visit to enhance the feel of the history of the city.
