Park is nice but has been neglected in recent years. Golf course is overgrown and lodge is worn. The new Governor has started revitalization of the park but years of neglect will take awhile to fix. Campground still good and the miniature golf provides a nice break, We used the paddleboats on the small like and it is just the right size for small kids or even older couples that want to get out for 30 = 40 minutes. Archery range was just ok. There are nice places to picnic. The on site restaurant is still pretty good usually w a buffet and decent menu. Best part of the park is the stone overlook. On the highest spot of the park with an excellent view of the town, the river and countryside. A great place to watch fireworks.

Beautifully preserved by the State of Indiana, the grand home of wealthy and generous James F.D. Lanier, is well worth a tour. The Docents are very knowledgeable and willing to share the story of Mr. Lanier and his rise to prominence. There are a few "family " pieces of furniture, but is very nicely appointed with period furnishings from the extensive Indiana State Museum collections. Lanier lured Maryland architect, Francis Costigan, to Madison to design his beautiful home. Costigan's hallmark is the detailed woodwork , curved doors and the inspiring spiral staircase. Plan on a full hour here for your guided tour...time well spent.

A beautiful riverside park. Lots of green space, great water views. benches, and plenty of parking. It was clean and well maintained. Playground for kids, picnic area too. Access to the river as well.

If you love local history, this is a great little gem. They have done an excellent job of clustering their local artifacts and telling a lovely visual story about the people of Vevay. The curator was so friendly and knowledgeable about the community's rich culture and history. We left there feeling like we had made a new friend.

The area along First, Second and Third Streets is home to many of the town's restored pre-Civil War houses.
I was fortunate to stay in Madison for a few days and spent my time walking around the town, looking at the historic buildings, visiting shops and restaurants, and spending time at the river. It's a beautiful town with friendly people.

Follow the signs pointing toward "winery" and they won't lead you astray! You'll arrive at a quaint farm with indoor and outdoor patio seating for your wine tasting. I enjoyed a glass of the Cayuga White. Nice quiet spot with some delicious wines to taste.

My father actually visited this restaurant on the way to General Butler State Park. His first beer was 1/2 off because he rode in on a Motorcycle. Friendly atmosphere, not crowded. Good hometown bar.

Well, we tried - three times in fact:
1. June 2017 - we booked the Rockin' Thunder thrill boat trip - which was cancelled due to FORECAST of severe weather... we were up in Madison that day - and it never even rained - but erring on the side of safety - because there was a threat of storms in the forecast that Sunday - Paul and Janet cancelled all bookings for the day - they offered to refund or re-book us at no charge..
2. SO - we rebooked for Sept. 30 - also for the Thrill Ride - that day was the Saturday of the very popular Madison Chautauqua Festival - and we were looking forward to making the half hour Thrill Ride the centerpiece of our day... but Paul phoned me on Weds. and said the thrill ride boat was having engine trouble... blech... but he offered to reschedule us on the other boat for the 2 hour scenic sunset trip at 5 pm.... okay - great..
3. Well, we are up in Madison on Sept. 30th - the weather was PERFECT - clear blue skies, warm sun, about 70 degrees a perfect fall day - esp. for a scenic ride on the Ohio departing from Madison, our favorite town... right? Not to be. Paul phoned us again - this time at about 11:00 am - when I saw the number come up on my phone - I knew it would not be good news... it wasn't - engine trouble on boat 2 - the trip was cancelled at the last minute... again...
"it's not meant to be Dad" my kid advised, "just get a refund.."
I did...
Oh well - I will give Paul and Janet credit for prompt notices, rebookings, refunds and customer service... guess a Rockin' Thunder ride was just not in the cards for us.. maybe I will try again in 2018? This attraction gets great reviews... and looks like fun - just be advised - have a BACK-UP PLAN - these trips are certainly subject to change on short notice...
the good news is, there are LOTS of fun things to do in Madison, - Plan B will not be hard to find... check out the "ChillBilly" soft serve stand right across the street - whether your ride embarks, or not, some soft serve ice cream makes every trip more fun!
