One of the best preserved ghost towns.
We drove 4 hours from Death Valley solely to see Bodie. About half way down the unpaved roadm we ebcountered concrete road barriers. No closed sign, just a blocked road. Very disappointed. We had checked the Bodie hours befofre departing for our destination, and saw nothing posted about a closure. All other roads on the way were ckear, with no snow, no ice, perfect driving condution. We saw no sniw or icebeyond tge concrete barriors. Bodie, you need to post closings on on the Internet.

Just south of Bridgeport on highway 395 is Travertine Hot Springs. My friend is currently using a walker, so I was glad to see that the small pool close to road was unoccupied. The sulfur colored "steps' where the water flowed in were pretty, and the area of hottest water. A short hike with a steep incline takes you to the larger pools. There are 4 connected to each other getting cooler the farther you get from the water origin. None of them have a strong sulfur smell. The scenery is beautiful here. This is the easiest spring in the area to find. It is clothing optional, as are most of the ones on government land. There's a restroom too.

These hot springs definitely require some agility to reach, but once you are there, it's a beautiful setting. The springs are right next to a river, and so the sounds and sights are gorgeous.

They have lots of artifacts from both the Pioneers and the native Americans from the area. The place is packed with old Western guns, tools, newspaper articles. Quite an impressive collective of historical things from this area which is a fascinating part of the USA.

Pack trips & trail rides in the Eastern Sierra! Just outside Bridgeport, California You can "pack in" on horseback to an exciting wilderness vacation as easily as you can drive to a popular roadside lake or stream. Miles and miles of beautiful high country filled with countless crystal clear lakes, sparkling streams, breath-taking mountains and valleys filled with classic stands of Lodgepole Pine, White Fir and a colorful array of wild flowers that you will see only in the Eastern Sierra country. We're off the beaten path on Sonora Pass (Highway 108) just a few miles west of Highway 395 outside of Bridgeport California with a paved road right to our front door. Look through our web site and then call us to make your reservations. We look forward to serving you while in the High Sierras. Remember to bring your camera! We look forward to serving you here at Leavitt Meadows Pack Station.
This station is right on the Walker River and the long valley that's Leavitt Meadows. It's a great place to get on a horse and enjoy the country. You go out with an experienced wrangler, so no worries if you're not Roy Rogers. There are some super places to have a picnic lunch if you're in the mood...several lakes within easy riding distance...or you can just cowboy up and ride around paradise for an hour or two. Horses are in great shape and easily managed!
It's an experience you and your kids will never forget.

We actually rented a boat from them to see the lake and try fishing.
Positives. Cheap- boat rental was $80 for 6 hours. Beautiful peaceful lake
Negatives. Unhelpful staff- I had my 3 year old with me and walked down to the boat with the employee. I had three fishing poles an ice chest a tackle box and fishing net and not once did he offer to help me carry any of it. Same thing when we returned. He sat on his chair and didn't help dock the boat at all. Extremely lazy
Boat was also very dirty. Old fish bait, chips and garbage on the floor. Seriously looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks.
We did manage to have a good time but this is no five star. You get what you pay for I guess.

We stopped here on our way to Virginia City, it is a nice quiet location, just to sit and watch the water. Bridgeport Reservoir is located north of the town of Bridgeport along highway 182. There is a marina, camping, RV hookups and fishing. The lake is home to Rainbow and Brown trout along with Perch. Traffic is very light along this area so it is rather peaceful just to pull of the road and enjoy the lake and eat your lunch.
