Drove across, this bridge on 05/10, entering Mobile from the north. There is a long causeway that leads up to the bridge. Nice views from the bridge, but no place to legally stop. The bridge itself is a thriugh arch type bridge. The bridge is also nicknamed the "Dolly Parton" bridge.

Perdido Vineyards

Reviewed By colt07 - Atlanta, Georgia

We visited Perdido Vineyards north of Mobile while visiting relatives in Mobile. This was a true gem in the rough.

The vineyard is a bit out of the way and about 40 minutes north out of downtown Mobile. However the drive was interesting and scenic. Once off I-65 you need to look for the state historical marker which shows where the vineyard is located. How many vineyards have you visited that have a state historical marker describing their history.

While not large and fancy our visit was made a true experience by actually meeting the owner Jim Eddins and being able to talk to him and listen to his life’s story which is truly remarkable. He is an industrial engineer having graduated from the US Naval Academy as a Marine. He fought in both Korea and Vietnam and is one of the modern giants of atmospheric meteorology. The story of how he got into the wine making business in Alabama is both touching and riveting. Down to the fact that he got then President Jimmy Carter to influence the “powers that be” in Alabama to allow him to grow his vineyard. As a side note he was asked back to the Naval Academy to address the midshipmen two years ago. I believe he was 81 at the time!

His product is outstanding as you would expect from someone like LtCol Eddins. He has muscadine wines and juices along with all sorts of other items. His muscadine (grape) juice is just to die for. His sweet white dessert wines are also superb and have won awards. We probably tried 6 or 8 wines and they were all good. We were limited to how much we could buy as to how many bottles we could put in our suitcase on the airplane.

This was one of the most enjoyable spots we have ever visited and one of the top two or three vineyards we have visited. This is a must if you are in the Mobile Bay area.

We had an excellent experience. Brittany was very professional, friendly and courteous. Geoff was humorous and was quite versed in the flora and fauna. Best part, Geoff is a former brother paratrooper; "Airborne, All the Way". Be sure to greet Beudreaux, the 3 1/2 foot .alligator that hangs out at the dock. Looking forward to our next trip to Mobile. This is a definite "REPEAT"!

Take a 5 mile or so drive south off of the I-65 on US 225 right before the elevated interstate starts and turn west on Cliffs Landing Road. Take it to the boat launch at road's end and look for this surprise. Cozy tap house with cordial people, good brews and ONE TERRIFIC SUNSET VIEW!!!
This place is proof that its worth it to take a trip off of the beaten path.

This was such a lovely and relaxing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed being on the boat and learning about the wildlife. The captain gave us so much interesting information. We saw egrets, heron, pelicans, alligators and even dolphins! The owners of the company couldn’t have been nicer. I even got picked up from my hotel. I highly recommend this trip to anyone.

It doesn't cost anything to visit, which is a bonus on vacation. Lots of animals (live and stuffed) to see. The staff was very knowledgeable and gave lots of info on the animals in the center as well as those outside. Check out the tortoises before you leave as well. They're quite funny.

We had a good walk around the park and battlefield information boards. There is a boat tour some days. But wasn't running the day we visited. Very quiet not many people about but was a storm brewing up so that could have been a factor.
