This was our favorite beach you take the little ones. Perfect protected area for the little ones to experience the waters. Uncrowded so there was plenty of area to set up beach chairs and be comfy.

My wife and I did the Jurassic Falls Landing Adventure with Island Helicopters. They are the only helicopter company that is allowed to land at the falls. It is more magnificent in person than on the big screen. ***Tip - If you take photos with anything other than a smart phone, such as a DSLR, make sure you bring a couple of lens cleaning cloths. The camera and lens will get wet from the spray very rapidly. I had a UV filter over my lens but it kept getting wet and the only thing I had to clean it was the bottom of my shirt. I know that this is not recommended even for a filter. If I didn't have a filter over the lens, I would have never cleaned the lens with a shirt. I would have used my smartphone to take the photos instead.

While traveling, I always make it a point to visit a local bookstore. If possible, I find one with a great story and Talk Story may have the best narrative. It is the westernmost bookstore in the United States and the only bookstore on Kauai. It was a highlight of our visit to Hanapepe and a great way to conclude our day after hiking in the Waimea Canyon. Talk Story offers a great selection of books with a fantastic focus on Hawaii. The staff was knowledgeable and welcoming. I picked up a few books and enjoyed the time spent browsing Talk Story. If you love cats, you will appreciate Talk Story's Boss - Celeste.

I really enjoyed coming down here during our trip. Lots of good food options from the different stores & many vendors set up to browse about. Don't forget to walk all the way down to see the Lilo & Stitch wall! Mahalo for reading!

If you want to see how ancient Hawaiians produced table salt from the sea, you can see it today - very similar to how it was done when the first people arrived. Salt Pond Beach is where you can see several family salt ponds. The work happens in the summer, when the sun dries the salt water fastest and the rain doesn't dilute the saline pools. You can't disturb the pools but you can get an idea of how the work is done. If you go in the summer, maybe you can find out from the folks how they produce the salt. You cannot sell it but you can make it for your family or for gifts.

Old Hanapepe is such a great little town which you can spend 15 minutes or a few hours in, depending on how much you connect with the atmosphere. The Swinging Bridge is really neat and fun for the kids, and a fabulous surprise for us was finding The Bridge Gallery right across the other side; the husband and wife who live in this beautiful and quaint house are professional photographers who moved to Kauai 5 years ago from New Mexico, and their work is exceptional! So many beautiful portraits from locations around the island. We did make a purchase to hang in our home. There are many shops and galleries in the town, and we just loved them. We will go back next trip.
