What can I share about Villa Francioni winery? If you never been in a winery before is a good and a bad starting point. Good because the place, structure and staff are nothing but perfect introducing you to this new touristic option in Santa Catarina state. Bad because if you visit them first, you'll find a higher standard level and any other winery will looks small :) As the first one in the region to become famous, they carry on a bigger responsibility to keep themselves as a reference and they do it well. Everything looks charming, since the entrance until the cave, and the guided tour teaches you a lot about the family history and the honors made with each wine produced. A good place to go to sip and discover good options of altitude's wines.

Along the years I've been visiting the wineries in São Joaquim's region and is easy to see their growing process. Arriving at Leone di Venezia, the owner, Mr. Saul Bianco, and his staff offer so special treatment that you feel like being a family member. It's very special and an amazing experience having him shaking hands welcoming you, right at the front door, and sharing about what motivated him to go forward the project made during his life, after his retirement. The main building have a rooftop with a stunning view from all around the farm and plantation, where you can just sit and sip a glass of wine (or a couple of them) while enjoying that romantic atmosphere surrounding you. They also have a wonderful garden, where you can have a picnic (scheduled in advance) and a restaurant, to have a meal with some of their special wines (scheduled as well). After a guided tour knowing the main structure, we could walk through the farm area with Mr. Bianco explaining about his first intentions of bringing Italian sources to produce different wines from most other wineries - which use the traditional ones; how they reached the stability to start producing wines; to taste some of his jewels; bring some of them home with a fair investment; and, in the end, leave the place willing to return... The winery is small, comparing with others at the same region, but they’re so careful with the place, the products they offer and with us, as visitors, that their proportion sounds huge. Huge like the italian hearts when you travel to Italy and feels welcome like at your “home sweet home”! Grazie mille signor Bianco!! ????
