Voodoo Brewery

Reviewed By BreezyLea2 - Pittsburgh, United States

I’ve been a fan of Voodoo Brewery since their initial opening in Meadville, so naturally I was ecstatic when the Homestead location opened up a few years ago. This unique location offers a one-of-a kind atmosphere: an old fire station turned in to a brewery. There’s the hole in the ceiling where the fireman’s pole used to be, old CPR mannequins stuffed in to a barrel with a glass table top, the massive garage doors to allow the engines out (which they open in the warmer weather); and old boots, helmets, and hoses on display. Their craft beer selection is especially wonderful if you love Belgian Triples and pale ale ales, but there’s something for everyone on their semi-rotating draft list. The Love Child - almost always available and my personal favorite - is a smooth fruity 9.5% Belgian Tripel that goes down way too easily. The Gran Met is another classic, at 9.2% it’s also a Belgian Tripel, and interestingly enough they age this beer on cherries, passion fruit, and raspberries to yield the Love Child. They also have a little kitchen in the back with a rotating menu. This time they had burgers, BBQ pulled pork sandwich, and a chicken poke-bowl. Last time we went, they were serving pizza. Though their selections for food are limited, we’ve never had a bad meal there. Pictured: Unicorn Farts, 8.2% New England IPA

I did not know what to expect from Puddles..I was pleasantly amused. I have been to the Xarnegie about 5 other times for national acts and I love the venue. The only drawback are the tiny uncomfortable wooden theater seats. I realize they add to the charm and are probably original to the refurbished theater, but they could use padding. There is not a bad seat in the house and even the on street parking is not hard to find. I really like shows in this theater,my butt does not.

Pittsburgh Improv

Reviewed By clh115

My husband and I went to see Steve Treviño at the Pittsburgh Improv. This was our first time there and we had a great experience! We would highly recommend the Improv to anyone and can’t wait to go back! We didn’t have to wait very long in line, got seated quickly and had great seats! Although it doesn’t look like there is a bad seat in the house. One thing I would advise, if you buy your tickets on Groupon make sure you go to Will Call first to get a paper receipt before getting in line. This paper receipt has a barcode you will need to have scanned to get into the show. We didn’t purchase our tickets through Groupon but the couple in front of us did and they had to get out of line to go back and get that paper receipt. Our waiter was very friendly and our service was super fast. We knew going in that we would both need to purchase two items off the menu. That is what the “two item minimum purchase per person” means when purchasing your tickets. I wasn’t sure at first so I looked it up on TripAdvisor before going. If you get soda in a souvenir glass with unlimited refills ($13) that counts as two items. If you don’t do that and only do the single soda they are $6 a piece. My husband got a draft beer ($8) and the warm pretzel sticks with cheese and honey mustard ($10) which was delicious! We thought their food and drinks were priced about the same as going to a concert or sporting event. We ended up spending around $50 after tip and since the tickets to the show were only $20 each plus tax we thought spending $100 for an evening out was very reasonable! If you haven’t heard of the comedian Steve Treviño I highly recommend you type his name into YouTube, he is hilarious! His opening act, Kyle Ray, was great too! We couldn’t stop laughing from the moment Kyle Ray came up on the stage to the time Steve Treviño left the stage! I would recommend the late show because he has more time to tell stories & jokes!

We all went to see the Mr Rogers movie that was filmed in Pittsburgh. We enjoyed the movie and theater. We went to eat dinner a few doors away and walked over to watch the movie. We purchased tickets on-line in advance, so it was easy and no lines. It is conveniently located and a clean friendly theater. Every seat is a great view with no heads in front of you. It is a great way to spend the evening
