The Hardanger Folk Museum (founded in 1911). The main museum with its exhibition and administration building is at Utne, 200 metres from the ferry landing. Changing art and cultural history exhibitions throughout the year. Permanent exhibitions: Folk costumes and accessories and Folk Music. In the open-air museum we have reconstructed a traditional cluster farm in which the oldest building is a medieval log house with a central open fire. The museum also has an old general store, cotter's cottage and wooden ski factory. The boathouse by the sea houses several traditional Hardanger boats. There is a museum shop where you can buy arts and crafts, books/ booklets, local history items and folk music. The museum is located by a fruit orchard. The Hardanger Folk Museum has branches with open-air museums and collections at Bu near Brimnes and Skredhaugen near Lofthus. School and guide service.

This place was recommended to me - and I was not disapponted. Very friendly family owned place that shows strong dedication to everything with apples. I bought it all - almost (because there is a lot)☝️. And the lovely taste of the lovely ciders takes me back to my quick stop in one of the most Scenic places in Norway. Thank you.

... an extraordinary experience! In beautiful and dramatic Western Norway, at the foot of the Voeringsfoss waterfall and by the ascent of the Maaboedalen valley, lies the Norwegian Nature Centre in Øvre Eidfjord with its breathtaking but unobtrusive architecture. The purpose of the centre is to gather and distribute knowledge about Norwegian nature, climate and environment. We made it our task to bring about an intimate meeting of modern man and nature. The Norwegian Nature Centre is an experience centre for the whole family, featuring lively exhibitions, hands-on activities and visual effects. Today, the centre is one of the leading centres of its kind, featuring state-of-the-art technological effects and innovative teaching technologies. Our supervideograph is a modern 225-degrees panoramic cinema, built in cooperation with Ivo Caprino who also made the film "Fjords, Mountains and Waterfalls" which is shown here. Our exhibitions are available in 13 different languages.
As part of a group tour of Eidfjord, we spent a couple of hours here. Excellent setup, with good geological history, climate, animals, nature. Walk-through was nicely arranged. Excellent for families. The shop/restaurant across the street has great buys on Norwegian outer wear.
