Tucked into historic Charles Town, West Virginia is one of the area’s most charming treasures, the Old Opera House. This active playhouse is one of the oldest operating live theatres in the state of West Virginia. First opened in 1911 and operated by the Old Opera House Theatre Company since the early 1970s, the Old Opera House has a rich tradition of bringing Broadway-style musicals, dramas and comedies to the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding community. Each year the OOH draws a diverse audience to see their productions, offerings that cover a wide spectrum of contemporary and classic theatre; from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to The Full Monty; from Deathtrap to Proof this theatre company has been delighting audiences for the past 46 years.

We love such Museums. They are small enough that you can cover them without getting tired, and interesting enough that you will always find a place to linger, where you want to learn more. The Jefferson County Museum is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Jefferson County, West Virginia. There is a Reception Desk where you are warmly greeted, and there is an Entrance fee, which is $4.00 for Adults. There is a very clear guide map, and you can begin your self-guided tour on either side. One side is dedicated to exhibits from the various wars. You can, also, learn more about John Brown, Harriet Lane (I loved her gorgeous Tiffany’s fan), and other notables from this area. There are old typewriters, old toys, old bottles, and firearms. The museum displays are such that they are easy to follow. There is ample street parking, and, also a small Gift Shop with unique items by local artists.

Just came in for date night. 3rd time in 2 months. Loved the food especially the Irish nachos. Another time brought our friends and they loved it. They are going again this week for a birthday. Prime Rib was very very good as were the ribs and fried mushrooms. Cannot wait to try the shepherds pie and the bangers and mash. Service is somewhat iffy at times but over all most staff are great.
