A lot of fun to visit for an hour or so and a great cafe. The exhibits represent much of the wildlife in the new england area. I really liked the dinosaur exhibit. It was super cool. UNE is fantastic.

We were so fortunate to have Rose Lovelock ( indigenous uni lecturer) explain the use of and history/ cultural context associated with the items on display which was so incredibly educational. Especially for me from NZ but no less for my Ozzie husband. In particular the tribal language groups map on the wall was astounding - the historical complexity and organisation of the first peoples is breathtaking. The damage heartbreaking. This should be the number To Do!

Stunning historic country homestead with gardens, farm buildings and a cafe giving you an insight into rural life in the 1800's. Available to the public for tours, weddings, functions and events. This ten-hectare grazing property was first inhabited by British settlers led by Henry Dumaresq in the 1830's. Today it includes an elegant, extensive, fully furnished Edwardian homestead, built between 1888 and 1906, and 15 farm and other buildings dating up to 1910, with their collections of early farm equipment. Take a guided tour through the White family's 30 room Edwardian mansion complete with original furnishings. Stroll through Mary White's garden, with its Jocelyn Brown style cottage garden, the picking garden, the heritage rose garden and the lawns. Visit outbuildings complete with 19th century tools and equipment. Allow at least half a day to see this extensive property, and experience 19th century pastoral life.
Saumarez House is beautifully preserved and the stories of family life are fascinating. The video and tour were informative and fascinating. It helped us understand the history of this area. We enjoyed the garden, although it was during the drought and we saw a snake. Will wear enclosed shoes next time. Then we indulged in Devonshire tea, featuring superb home made scones. All the volunteers were friendly and had a wealth of information which they readily shared. Next, we went down to the farm and photographed the rustic buildings and machinery. We will be back, bringing friends and family to enjoy this wonderful experience.

This beautiful old house, designed by Horbury Hunt, has beautiful brickwork and stunning features. The beautiful library, drawing, dining rooms and hallways are well worth seeing. There are great examples of coloured and stained glass, one window dedicated to the life of General Gordon of Khartoum, others dedicated to discovery and scholarship. This great house in the grounds of the University of New England is an incredible legacy and memorial to the wealth of the White family.

This was one of the stops on the Guided Heritage Tour taken from the Armidale Visitor Centre. As the stop also enabled us to visit the next door Aboriginal Cultural Centre we lost time in this venue before heading to the Art Museum where we then had limited time to take in the wonderful art on display here. Hence, we returned by car that same afternoon and did a separate and longer visit to be able to really appreciate these works of art collected by 1 man. If you don't have time to make a separate visit and only do this whilst on the bus tour, make sure you leave time to have a good look here first.
