8 Sights & Landmarks in Ko Lanta That You Shouldn't Miss

March 11, 2022 Terina Blouin

The dive sites surrounding Ko Lanta are considered to be some of Thailand’s finest. An intricate system of reefs, islets, and underwater caves are teeming with vibrant sea life. While you splash in the waves you may catch a glimpse of a Moken (sea gypsy) boat, gliding nomadically through the waters. Cap off your day with mouthwatering seafood, freshly caught and spicy enough to make your tongue tingle.

Asalanta

ASA stands for Asian Sustainability Academy and Lanta is the tropical island we are located. It's a big name that reflects our passion. In reality ASALANTA is a little earthen village in a bamboo forest, hidden away in the valley with a surrounding mountain stream. Yet here you can get inspired, enjoy nature, learn by living and see sustainability in practice. Our lodge offers a unique stay and experience, The Eco Life Adventure. Visitors have access to the village and can cool down with a fresh ice tea at The Organic Teahouse & Earth Shop. For workshops or renting our facilities to host your own adventure, check out our Education Park.

Myself and my boyfriend went to a macrame class at Asalanta and loved every minute! Anke and Aoi have built an incredible haven in the jungle which works as a home, a creative space, an organic tearoom, unique shop and an inspiring learning zone. From the moment we arrived, Anke, Aoi (and their beautiful daughter, Asa) were welcoming, passionate and knowledgable about everything from turning clay into bricks, a river into running water using solar powered energy and gravity, bamboo into a balcony and a waxy string into a perfectly knotted hammock for a hand picked stone/crystal. The food at Asalanta is fresh, local, organic and very tasty! The class was fun, informative and a great success, as we both left with beautiful pieces of jewellery and the knowledge on how to continue our new hobby at home. We would both highly recommend visiting Asalanta, whether it be for just a tea, snack or one of the many classes they put on. We had a fantastic day and will certainly be returning!

Lanta Old Town

Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

Koh Lanta town has exceeded our expectations: We are staying at Mango house (traditional teak building over the sea and on stilts). We are now staying for three nights. Motorbike hire is easy and the local boat pier is delightful. Quiet and good quality restaurants in the evening. Not a beach place, but handy for everything including snorkelling trips.

Muay thai is big part of Thai culture so if you want to experience Thai culture 100% you have see Muay thai. Have to give warning that there is also kids having a match so if you don't want to see kids beating each other, then don't go. Stadium ticket is 800baht and ringside 1200baht. Stadium is quite small so there is no need for ringside tickets. I recommend to go restaurant toilet before entering stadium when toilets in stadium are just a hole at the floor.

This pier is small but well organized. By arrival people asked us of we already had tickets & then told is where to go to. After getting our boat tickets & stickers they told us to sit and that they would pick us up to go to the Marina pier. This happened & the boats were on time.

A visit to Old Town is a must if you are on the island for a week and you have a scooter, besides the great morning street food and interesting shops and souvenirs, there is a awesome Chinese Pier Temple and the Old Town Pier is magnificent scenery. Well worth the visit, branch out and see the non touristy Eastern side of the island! Great day trip!
