I want to strongly second WayChai's review and say that we saw Akiyo Shichiku's story on this travel show called "Journeys in Japan" last year and that inspired us to visit her garden - and nearly all other Garden Path sites around Hokkaido this June. Just as we were leaving, Akiyo Shichiku showed up wearing her famous bright floral outfit and we got to visit and take pictures with her - and she even took us on her own tour of some of the nursery and vegetable gardens in the back. Definitely a trip highlight.
