The doors opened on 16 August 2000, the 60th anniversary of the original Test Platoon’s first parachute jump. The museum offers free admission, a main exhibit gallery, temporary gallery, four-story tall theater, a gift shop, and a motion simulator ride that features two experiences. Admission is free, and we do accept donations in the gift shop and in donation boxes in the lobby. The main gallery is designed as a self-guided tour, in chronological order, through the history of airborne and special operations soldiers from 1940 to the present. The temporary gallery changes periodically and displays a myriad of exhibits pertaining to the United States Army airborne and special operations units through their history and conflicts from World War II to the present.
Had the opportunity to visit the museum while visiting Fayetteville. Must say it was well worth it and brought back so many memories of 20 years assigned to SF at Bragg. Forgotten memories came flooding back when I saw pictures and faces of people on the wall that I served with and knew. Goose bumps came over me, recalling experiences. This was a long over due visit, having left the area almost 30 years ago. It was well worth the visit and I salute those involved in creating this museum of history that displays the sacrifices made by the soldier in defense of this great country. I also SALUTE the volunteers who sacrifice their time to make this place an memorable visit for the old soldier and his family upon their return. Highly recommend everyone visiting the Fayetteville area to stop by and see what history has recorded of the Airborne and Special Forces soldier.

This is a wonderful spot to see great local art and artists. They tend to have exhibits that change every few months and special events almost weekly.

A history museum covering the southern region of North Carolina.
Admission is free and it is a self-guided tour of the history of the area. The exhibits include authentic items as well as re-creations that help add to the telling of the area's history. As easy stroll through will take less than an hour but it is certainly worth the time.

Hands-on exhibits and interactive play for children.
Great place to take the little ones (age 8 and younger will enjoy the most). Every 4th Friday in downtown Fayetteville the museum is free with donation, also on Wednesdays during the day at a certain time. Not sure how often things are sanitized and cleaned and with it being flu season (and just with germs in general) I think this is a very important measure that must be taken daily. You child is guaranteed to spend 1-2 hours before leaving without putting up a fuss. Large facility. Want to have a Puppet show? Be a News Anchor on TV? Create you own play with costumes? Pretend your a firefighter? Drive a cop car or a ambulance? Want to be a teacher in the classroom? A doctor? A grocery store clerk? A judge? A post office worker? A construction worker? Or my kids favorite; A waiter and cook? Ever worked on a farm? Want to know what the military life is like? Want to be a dentist? Ok, that's pretty much everything...hope this helped someone. This place deserves all the praise, serves the upcoming leaders of our community well.

This area was orginally developed because of transportation needs. WE are at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. This museum tells that key to our history plus lots of interesting tidbits, like a 1950's gas station, info on hotels - steam boat travel, etc.
