Hacıvelioglu Mansion was built in 1897. Its importance today mainly comes from its role in the War of Independence. It was used as a military headquarter by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk during the Independence War. Ataturk stayed in this house for a night and marched to Kocatepe that is 20 km to the west of Suhut where the Turkish army started large-scale attacks against the Greek forces.

The importance of this building, is that Mustafa Kemal, the Commander-in-chief; Ismet Inonu, the Commander of Western Front; Fevzi Cakmak, the Chief of the General Staff; and Tevfik Bıyıklıoglu, the Chief of Western Front Actions Office all stayed in this historical building and used here as headquarters upon the liberation of Afyonkarahisar from the occupation of the enemies on August 27th, 1922.
