8 Motels in Chattanooga: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 22, 2023 Leonarda Pillsbury

The name "Chattanooga" comes from the Creek Indian word for "rock coming to a point." This refers to Lookout Mountain, one of the city's major attractions. Here visitors can explore extraordinary rock formations, see a roaring enclosed waterfall and travel by train to the top of the mountain for truly awesome vistas. Back down on the ground, don't miss the world's largest freshwater aquarium, the Tennessee Aquarium. History enthusiasts will love the city's museums dedicated to Civil War, Native American and 20th-century history. More than anything, Chattanooga is a scenic city, full of natural wonders waiting to be explored by foot, car, bike or train.

Rip Off

I reserved a room to stay for six nights online 3 weeks before my stay. I used my credit card and when I arrived they insisted on a $100 dollar cash deposit. I didn't understand this because I had the credit card I had reserved the room with and in all other motels this was an acceptable deposit. They pointed to a tiny sign at the front desk to indicate this was the policy. However, this was not mentioned at all on the website or the confirmation I had printed. They told me this was in case I damaged the room and they assured me I would get it back when I checked out and had the room "inspected". I found I had to stay an additional day in town and then leave for Nashville in the AM, so I asked the front desk if they had a room for one more night. They canceled the room I had originally reserved for the last night and then charged me an additional increased fee for that night. I told them I already had reserved that night at a reduced price, but the clerk told me that now it was more and I was going to have to pay the new rate. I said I didn't think this was correct and they said take it up with the manager who was not there. The next morning I went back to the front desk to talk to the manager, who again was not available. I was worried I was going to have trouble getting my room "inspected" and finding the manager to resolve the overcharging business in the early AM the next day. As it ended up there was no manager present at 6 AM and no one to "inspect" my room. I had to demand my $100 cash back since I couldn't wait around. They begrudgingly gave it back and then I again complained about the increase in the room price, and was assured the manager would call me about it. Weeks later no one called, so I called and spoke to the front desk manager who said she would help me if I had the confirmation number. When I started to give her the number, she stopped me and said now she would have to review it and would call me later. Clearly she has no intention of giving me my money back. I will now have to take it up with my credit card company which will easily see they did rip me off. I am complaining here to warn everyone not to stay with them as they are there to rip you off. They are hoping you forget the $100 cash in your hurry to leave, and they are hoping you won't take the time to complain to your credit card company. The room was okay; not dirty but nothing I would ever pick again. The AC stopped working. I had to stay here because I had business nearby that week.

Hoped for Better

Reviewed By alternativeavenue

Decided to try Studio 6 for one night passing through. I am no stranger to budget hotels and my exceptions are realistic. The mini kitchen area was a nice touch, but with wet food in the microwave and everything otherwise greasy. The room was spacious but desperately needed another wipe down overall. Parking was super tight and we woke to a busted bumper. Check in and out was easy and front desk staff were kind folks.

NASTY!

Should have got back in the car but we were tired and it was late. Thank God I travel with Lysol otherwise could not have touched anything in the room. Dirty sheets, towels, floors, sink, everything! Had to sleep with the lights on to try to control the roaches. People loitering in the hallway and kids screaming. We felt incredibly unsafe and management couldn't be bothered. Run away from this one!

Never, ever stay here

Reviewed By OldGreekMan

I spent a few hours here on business. I have never seen anything like this place. The room was devoid of decor. The walls were dirty. The carpet was old and dirty. The bed had copious amounts of mouse droppings on the sheets and cover. Absolutely disgusting. The few clientele were of questionable appearance. I left and deeply regret ever going. DO NOT stay here for any purpose. It is, literally, better to sleep in your car or truck than in this place.
