Whilst the idea of visiting a volcanic quarry might not be top of many people’s bucket list we found the trip entertaining and informative. Our guides met us at our hotel in a car and took us to Cayma, one of the districts of Arequipa to see how the Sillar Stone was commonly used. A very peaceful, and typical district Square. Then after a quick stop overlooking a panorama featuring all three of Arequipa’s volcanoes we headed to the first quarry. Its a literal, working quarry, although it feels very much like it is trying to pivot to tourism, with some decorative sculptures appearing. We had a demonstration of stone cutting, including the chance to split the huge chucks of rock ourselves. It really showed how hard the work is. Next to another note un-used quarry which features a ravine walk along a dried out river bed. We saw unusual-rock formations and historic rock carvings. Then we were dropped back at our hotel. Overall there was a good mix of things to see and do. Whilst my wife was bored by rock cutting, she loved walking the dried river bed, so i would say a good mix for couples! The guides were knowledgable, fluent in english, charming, and attentive to our questions and observations. A great few hours well spent. Highly recommended!

My daughter and I went to Cusco, Peru for volunteering and while we were there we decided to do some sightseeing on the weekends. Louis and Velma were amazing and they suggested all the tourist places we should see. They took charge of all the planning for our tours. My daughter and I had a great time and were able to see all the Inca sites . Visiting Machu Picchu was one of the best experiences
What we consider makes this experience special is the dynamic relationship established between the visitor, the pieces on display, the space and the hosts themselves. Although the curatorship of the pieces on display as well as the interior design of the space are aspects that distinguish us, the information shared by way of conversation that takes place in this type of house museum is what makes our guests perceive themselves, not only as viewers, but as part of the experience itself, being able to engage in a horizontal and spontaneous dialogue, with the familiarity and warmth of those who are in their own home.

We loved stumbling upon this gorgeous Art Gallery! The owner was super informative, patient and hospitable. We bought many artisan Andean treasures including gorgeous tapestries, poncho's and hats while sipping on yummy local Kombucha. We got home and wished we had bought more! We didn't see anything else that compared the rest of our trip! We arrived late and they let us take our time and make decisions as there are many options to choose from. Quality was top notch and we hope to make it back again in the future! Thank you ALQA for sharing your master artisans with us! Don't miss this Gallery!
