On the idyllic and less-visited north shore of Lake Atitlan, Santa Cruz is an indigenous Kaqchikel village with around two thousand local inhabitants. This quiet village has long been a favorite destination for those in the know who want to get away from it all, and La Iguana Perdida is proud to have been active in the community here since we opened the doors in 1996. We’ve been an “eco-hotel” since before the term became popular, converted to solar in the last few years, and we’ve always been active in the environmental movement on Atitlan. The choice of lodging at the Iguana runs the gamut, from the original wood construction consisting of spacious dormitories, private rooms with shared bath and a rustic cabana, to the more modern side of the hotel where our luxury rooms include private bath, balcony and lake views. Shared bathroom facilities are scattered around the spacious property tucked behind the bouganvillas and banana trees. Our restaurant serves delicious breakfasts and lunches from 8am until 3pm daily and family-style feasts every night at 7pm often followed by activities like open-mic and trivia. All meals are prepared by the lovely local Mayan staff, and vegetarian, gluten free and other dietary restrictions are always available upon request. The climate (warm in the sun and cool in the shade) is perfect for whatever level of activity you’re seeking, even if it’s lounging in a hammock with a good book all day. Located right on the waterfront, La Iguana Perdida is one of the best places to enjoy the beauty and serenity that Lake Atitlan has to offer. Start the day with a yoga class on the patio overlooking the lake with the volcanos framed in the distance, then go for a kayak or follow shaded trails and paths along the shoreline for a dip in the magical waters of Atitlan. After a day of hiking or kayaking, fire up our traditional Mayan sauna or treat yourself to a massage with one of our experienced practitioners. There’s no reason to be bored even on a rainy day with our pool table, dartboard, book exchange and TV room at your disposal, and if you’d like to immerse yourself more in the local community we can organise backstrap weaving classes in a local home or one-on-one Spanish classes. We even have wifi now! If water sports is your bag, we are home to ATI Divers, the only scuba operation on Lake Atitlan since 1996. Enjoy a fun dive or take the four-day PADI Open Water Course and become a certified diver. Atitlan is a collapsed volcanic caldera with massive volcanic rock formations, fish, crabs and even volcanic hot-spots you can plunge your hands into. One of the few spots in the world where you can get the high-altitude specialty certification without freezing! We’re open to travellers of all ages, and with over twenty years in business we hope we can find a way to make your visit to Lake Atilan a memorable one.
Pretty hostel in Santa Cruz Laguna, immersed in vegetation and with beautiful lake and volcano views! We spent 5 nights, and totally recommend the place. The staff and team of volunteers are simply great, all lovely and happy people who make your stay happy and help you with any logistics and questions you might have. The private room with bathroom is spacious, beautiful decor, clean and quiet. We loved the common areas, with hammocks, plenty of chairs to sunbathe and a pool table. The restaurant/cafe was also our favourite, as we had dinner with the other guests there every night at 7 pm (family dinner, a set menu that changes every evening and varies from pasta, pizza, tasty soups and BBQ on Saturdays). Really nice way to get to know other travellers, the staff and the owners, lovely people who like to talk and share their stories with everyone.

I choose this hotel inspired by the pictures I saw on the internet. But once I arrived, I found out that the breakfast was not included and the amenities, such as the pool should be paid. The second day my husband asked for a soup and it took to be ready two hours. The sheets never being changed for three days, same as the towels. And even worse, one of the towels had a big yellow stain.

Arca de Noe Hotel is a gorgeous place to stay in Lake Atitlan - we're famous for the most rustic and eco-friendly style hotel, and even with the best lake front cabins to relax! There are more elegant hotels in the region. There are certainly more expensive places to stay, but no hotel at any price can match Arca de Noe's quiet ambiance. The hotel has ten rooms, five with private baths with very hot showers! our hotels runs with 100% solar energy system! and help the environment. At our Hotel we have a Restaurant, Free Wifi, Transportation, Day tours and Hikes and many more activities. 100% local family owned - Spanish, English, and French are spoken.
Upon arriving I had some hope, but that started to diminish as the day went on. The restaurant is also part of the reception, and so when checking in you can clearly see what the kitchen looked like. I could see that there were many dirty looking dishes, appliances, flies all over, etc. It did not look clean, and because of that I did not want to eat there. After getting into the room in the bungalow, it looked crusty, not well constructed at all, the sheets all looked like they were random old ones from someone's home and we're stained and smelled funky. The room want properly cleaned either as there was food crumbs on the desk, there were many spiders, and spider webs that looked like they have been there a while. I had to kill a scorpion that easily crawled inside through one of the many gaps in the doors and windows, walls, ceilings, etc. Trying to go to sleep was near impossible with the noise that some animal was making as it chewed on the ceiling wood planks and pranced around on them. I imagine it was a rodent. Either way it was unsettling knowing a wild animal was chewing and scratching things directly above our heads. There was also a big gap above the bed that you could see into that ceiling space. No screens on the windows. Everything was poorly constructed to keep out the elements and I felt it just isn't worth the low price. The bed also has these weird cement bed posts that easily can ruin your knees as you try to squeeze through the one bed's side 6 inches from the wall. So after a night of zero sleep from keeping eyes for the invaders, we decided to leave after one night and forfeit the second nights reservation. Things can look "rustic" but it's not worth it if you're having sacrifice quality and common sense. Sorry, but this place needs a major makeover, and I would just avoid it if possible until they do. One positive though is that this was the first place that had actual hot water, and plenty. That was nice since the other places I was in before did not.

Villa Sumaya is an Eco-Chic Wellness Center. We are dedicated to rejuvenating holistic practices and healing modalities as well as preserving Mayan traditions and facilitating outdoor adventure in the heart of the Altiplano. Majestically located on the shores of Lake Atitlan, we offer custom designed all inclusive services, to personal, group and family retreats.
I stayed at Villa Sumaya for a week with a private tour. The rooms were very comfortable, the food was amazing - every day, every meal. The staff were all chill and helpful and the amenities were so unique from a Mayan fire ceremony to ancestral massage. I highly recommend this spot for your next spiritual retreat.

Whether you are strolling to a romantic sunset dinner, laughing with friends over a cocktail, dining private in your room or enjoying pool-side lunch, our bar and kitchen offers magical experiences infused with flavours of local Mayan hospitality. Play Croquet, take a ride with a Kayucos or our kayak, play beach volleyball, or stroll our beautiful gardens while watching the great variety of birdlife. There is also a great variety of activities on the lake. Some of our favourites include hiking a volcano, scuba diving to see ancient towns hidden on the depths of the lake, visiting the local authentic Mayan towns and Mayan ceremonies. Casa Prana is located next to the village of Santa Cruz La Laguna on the edge of Lake Atitlan. The connection to the property is made only by boat through Panajachel, the main village in the area. The boat of Casa Prana picks and delivers the guests from and to Panajachel, on the arrival and departure days. It is also possible to reach the property through helicopter. Travel time to Guatemala City is around 3 hours by car or 25 minutes by Helicopter. Welcome to Paradise.
Probably the most beautifull place I’ve been. The atmosphere and scenery is beyond amazing, and the staff will always help you with anything that you may request. The sounds you hear around you when you relax by the pool with some delicious food and drinks can’t be described with words. You really have to experience it.

Beautiful gardens view and deck. I am sure it was popping in the past but was very quiet and chill. Perfect if that is what you want. The owner is soo sweet along with the workers. Hot gas shower ? in a private room. Simple room but it was clean and she gave me a great price. I wouldn't hesitate to return for a night or at least for dinner. She had a set menu so its best to tell her a few hours in advance if you planon dining there
