Stargard Gate, located to the south of Neubrandenburg's Marienkirche , was first of the four medieval city gates that we have seen during our short stay within the old, medieval city walls. Built in first half of 14th century it is a very well preserved Brick Gothic gate system consisting 18 meters high front gate, 40 meters long kennel walls connecting it with 24 meters high main gate, and integrated into it half-timbered house that use to serve as a custom house. Two openings in the city walls on the both sides of the Stargard Gate were made in 1909 in order to facilitate pedestrian traffic. Both, main and front gate are richly decorated with plastered panels. Additionally, front gate is decorated with rosettes, gables and pinnacles, meanwhile, main gate's southern façade is decorated with nine figures of unclear meaning. Only knights in full armour and motley crowd of merchants, peasants, squires, craftsmen and monks was missing. That was the first time we've seen such a well preserved Medieval city gate, and still, there were three more to admire. Amazing place.
