April 11, 2022 Dorsey Hagwood

During the Civil War, Knoxville's Mabry-Hazen House served as headquarters for both the Confederate and Union armies. Today you can visit the house and other historic homes in this eastern Tennessee city. Among Knoxville's other attractions are museums, a zoo and World's Fair Park, site of the 1982 World's Fair. University of Tennessee sports draw lots of fans, as does the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. To see Knoxville from the water, take a leisurely riverboat ride down the Tennessee River.

I love the river walk, you can sit on the bench to soak up the views of the Tennessee river; you have many trails to walk through nature and just a short walk on the right is the Quarry. Ijams features a very cool zipline through the trees. highly recommend to anyone that just needs to get a break from the city. The quarry just down the road is great for more trails, kayaking (you can rent them, they will not allow you to launch your own), swimming and tubing.

This is a fabulous, interesting, educational tour of the home; you'll learn a lot about the family that lived there, and a lot about the early history of Knoxville, too. It is definitely worth your time when visiting Knoxville, and the entry fee is quite reasonable. I was fortunate to have Penny, a docent, as my tour guide. She gave a great tour, readily takes questions, and know a lot about the home, the family that built the home, and its history.

A quiet place to remember the lives loss during all the American conflicts. They recognize medal of honor recepients and others whom have lost their lives. I would recommend visiting this if wandering the World's Fair Park.

Knox County Old Gray Cemetery

This was a neat old cemetery. It is the final resting place of some notable area families, politicians, and war heroes. The monuments and tombstones are pieces of art in their own right. The cemetery is about 13 acres and is an easy walk to stroll through the entire thing. It buttresses up against the Knoxville National Cemetery.

Knoxville Botanical Garden

I really enjoyed the garden today. I took about 50 photos and posted them today. I hope you will not listen to the negative reviews but will see for yourself that it is a beautiful place to walk, find beauty, and peace. I saw families having a good time and strolling their babies. The hydrangeas and Lillies were in full bloom and gorgeous! Whether you are a local, like myself, or someone out of town, please come and visit.
