Chimayó is a census-designated place (CDP) in Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties in the U.S. state of New Mexico; the name derives from a Tewa name for a local landmark, the hill of Tsi Mayoh. The town is unincorporated and includes many neighborhoods, called plazas or placitas, each with its own name, including El Potrero de Chimayó (the plaza near Chimayó's communal pasture) and the Plaza del Cerro (plaza by the hill). The cluster of plazas called Chimayó lies near Santa Cruz about 25 miles north of Santa Fe. The population was 3,177 at the 2010 census.

I came here last spring hoping to purchase a Chimayo vest, somewhat of a family tradition here in Northern New Mexico. I came to this shop because of it being open when others were not and I'm glad I did! Mr. Irvin Trujillo showed us his beautiful artwork which is on display throughout the store, measured me, and helped to make sure the design was just what I wanted. My custom vest was completed quickly, was quite affordable, and I couldn't be happier! Thank you Mr. Trujillo!

I bought a beautiful woven purse directly from the weaver and some pretty earrings. This store is affordable and interesting-the weavers weave right there with their big looms!

The "Lourdes" of America, where miracles are thought to happen.
Such a beautiful and holy place. We met the priest who was extremely nice and friendly. We got holy water blessed to bring back and some healing dirt. A peaceful, clean, lovely place to visit on our trip thru NM.

We arrived on a Wednesday and there weren’t many people. It was perfect. We visited the gift shop for candles that we offered in the church and enjoyed all its surroundings.

From jewelry to peppers, this place has it all. Very friendly staff and it's on the way to see the Church at Chimayo. Reasonable prices and huge selection of seasonings. Worth the stop.

On a day out of Santa Fe we went through Chimayo to seek out the weaving shops there. Ortega's is a real gem, service very friendly and patient and a huge selection of rugs, blankets, and all sorts of accessories. Prices are fair, better than in ABQ or SF we thought. We bought a beautiful rug, had it shipped to our home in MD and a week later are enjoying it! Even IF you don't want to purchase anything this is a great stop!
